Dr. Dwayne Simmons, director of STEM Initiatives at Baylor University, helped students embark on a six-week intensive internship in Yucatan where they learned and taught from a program specifically for students pursuing research-related careers.

“The point of healthcare simulation is to help students have an opportunity to practice what they would do in actual clinical practice, so they have this safe space that is a controlled environment where they have an opportunity for instant feedback,” Tserotas said. “They’re able to take what they learn in practice, and they can take that to a clinical setting when they interact with their patients.”

The DA’s office dropped the charges against Scott and Nichols because they concluded that doing so would ensure justice. Rather than aiming for convictions, they saw the case as an act of “self-defense and defense of others,” committing to the proper application of the law.

“If you’re doing a research paper and you want to see the perspective of a Baylor student from the 1800s or you want to read through newspapers of Waco in the 1910s, you’ll find those in those collections,” Ames said.

“Our goal is not to be converts,” Yeager said. “Our goal is to get people the gospel, have them understand the power of Christ’s gospel that is available to their life, allow them to receive that and create a space where we’re facilitating the gospel in a way that leads to discipleship.”
