This weekend has been a win for rock n’ roll, R&B and pop-lovers alike. This Tunesday, I’m breaking down one of my new favorite songs from Lola Young’s third studio album, the musical miracle that is Buckingham Nicks and more. Tune in to get the scoop on these fresh releases.

“Malcolm Todd” is a collection of songs that is chock-full of emotions. Whether that be feelings of inadequacy, confidence, longing, betrayal or adoration, Todd masterfully expresses and projects them all into song form. I found that all of my favorites from this album also seemed to be the ones where Todd seemed to be spinning out of control and pouring out his heart. These allow the listener a peek into how he sees, feels and thinks — a picture of beautiful chaos.

With Diadeloso just around the corner, I can imagine most Bears are ready to get crazy. But hold up — there’s still work to be done before the fun can be had. So, before you turn up next week, here are some mellow bops to accompany your academics this week.

Now that they’re finally back from Thanksgiving break, many students might find it hard to get back on their grind. Hopefully, with the help of these good tunes, scholars will find it easier to lock in for the final push of the semester.

Waco-born R&B, soul and jazz fusion group “Smooth Nature” resonates with authenticity and sonic passion throughout their songs and live performances. The trio is composed of two brothers and one of their longtime friends, making it obvious when listening to their music that their connection runs much deeper to one another than just their craft.

Chill in the air or not, fall is upon us and so are the celebrations that come with it. This weekend in Waco is full of festivals to attend, so grab a friend and join the fun. The best part: many seasonal celebrations including Howdy and Oktobearfest are free, so don’t miss out on the food, music, culture and community.

This week’s schedule includes a whole lot of stage time for our talented Waco and Baylor performers. Join the crowd in supporting them, and take a parent along to show off the Waco scene while you’re at it. It’s Family Weekend, after all!

When Choudhury was brainstorming a theme and lineup for the show, she was looking at significant dates around the beginning of September and found that Sept. 6 was National Food Bank Day. Choudhury then pitched the idea of creating a “Show for a Cause” to Thomas, and they decided that attendees would be able to bring cans to donate to the show in exchange for a discounted ticket.

There are definitely some noteworthy and deserving winners of the awards, but in general, I believe the biggest categories are given to the biggest stars. In other words, commercial success is prioritized over musical talent.

The king of fall keeps collecting folk and country artists like they’re Infinity Stones. Between Zach Bryan, Hozier and Kacey Musgraves, Noah Kahan is close to controlling the world. He is inevitable.

My gripe with this album is partly due to Caesar’s style in general. When you make an album full of mellow, slow songs that are short and meant to flow together, you end up getting an album that is pretty shallow in wavelength, which is to say the whole album is like a depressive episode. It’s just low, low, low.

Daniel Caesar returned with his fourth album, “NEVER ENOUGH,” featuring some collaborations with favorites like Omar Apollo and Ty Dolla $ign. On “Always,” Caesar sings alone, but is nevertheless captivating with his buttery R&B vocals. It’s a sweet song, really romantic in comparison to some of the others on this album, which swing a little bit toxic or just plain sad, like “Valentina” or “Buyer’s Remorse.”

As bands like fooligan, Hunter Cox & The Big League Boys, sack lunch!, Montclair and Rococo Disco projected out into Fountain Mall, the ears of those in the crowd were met with colorful rock and indie tunes. Not far off, more music sounded at the SUB Bowl stage, hosting bands and artists like SUNNN, Braden Black, Secondhand Son and Brother Boy.

If gushy indie music is your jam, you’ll love, well, really anything by Leith Ross. “(You) On My Arm” comes just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s a soft, pretty song with lovely lyrics that just make the rest of us want to lie down in the street a little bit.

Stepping into the album itself, we have a tracklist that is only half developed as of this moment since the late 2022 project awaits its second release due to the newfound fame from opening for Harry Styles on his most recent tour.
