The theme of the recent Sundown Sessions event on Sept. 7 was “Lego Crazy,” which included free lego stets for the first 50 attendees, as well as karaoke and board games. As opposed to the 40-80 attendees usually present at these sessions, “Lego Crazy” tallied 120 Baylor students.
Several voices could be heard singing and echoing throughout the Bill Daniel Student Center on Thursday evening. Shortly after the singing stopped, thunderous applause lasted for several minutes. The building was filled with laughter and cheers as faculty, staff and students gathered around to watch the performances at the Black Student Welcome.

Baylor events, in my experience, have the tendency to be dismissed as hot, loud and overcrowded gatherings that will in no way add to one’s Baylor experience. While all of these descriptions can make school events seem less appealing, I think attending them significantly adds to the Baylor experience.
This year, the Baylor Graduate School and the Graduate Student Association partnered to host a week’s worth of events celebrating its students, as Baylor cements itself as a preeminent Christian R1 institution.
Baylor celebrates Dia as a way for students to bond with one another and celebrate what it means to be a Baylor Bear. Situated arguably in the most stressful point in the school year, Dia provides a break for students in the midst of the chaos.
