Baylor should absolutely celebrate its traditions, its faith and, of course, its close-knit culture. Those things are what’s worth holding onto. However, if the goal is to nurture students who can make an impact anywhere, Baylor has to challenge us to grow beyond the Baylor bubble. Otherwise, we risk being prepared solely for life here and not for the life that awaits us all after we leave.

Baylor University began rolling out digital IDs in the spring of 2023. Now the university is transitioning away from physical cards altogether. This year, the incoming freshman class did not even receive a physical ID, only a digital one.

From Truman to Trump and Reagan to Obama, Baylor and Waco have played host to some of the nation’s most powerful political figures. Governors, justices and presidents alike have stepped into the green and gold spotlight — each leaving a mark on campus history.

On Aug. 8, Baylor filed a lawsuit against Boston University for its use of the logo, an image that Baylor has used since 1912. Baylor first confronted Boston over its use of the logo in 2021, but the iconic BU logo has since found its way onto more of Boston University’s memorabilia and is now associated with several of the school’s club sports.

From packing up personal belongings to scheduling check-out appointments, the move-out process can feel overwhelming without a plan. To help make things easier, Rob Engblom, senior associate director for resident learning, gave advice on how to make for a seamless move-out day.

All I can say is, thank God I only spent two weeks at Baylor before I got my foot in the door at The Lariat. I don’t know what else I would have done here to make my college experience half as meaningful.

Baylor announced on April 14 it will participate alongside McLennan Community College and cyber education company General Assembly to offer students and professionals alike the opportunity to take two cyber skills courses. The initiative, which stemmed from a skill gap among technology professionals throughout the U.S., aims to provide additional certification and training to a wide variety of employees in the Waco community.

This summer, the Waco Mammoth National Monument will celebrate its 10 year anniversary of becoming a recognized site by the National Park Foundation. This designation was the result of over six years of hard work between the park staff and Waco community, according to National Parks Service Site Manager Raegan King.

Cybersecurity Club at Baylor is a club that allows students to grow in their cybersecurity knowledge and skills while also providing mentorship opportunities to its members. The club also feeds into a competition team, the Baylor Cybersecurity Team, that is nationally ranked and competes against other schools across the country.
