Baylor FitWell launched the Punch Pass on Sept. 9 as a way to draw more students into being active through fitness classes.

“People that have been climbing for years can come and be able to learn from one another,” Robb said. “Also, we have a different set of programming than what’s available currently on campus.”
Every time I have come home within the past few months, there has been someone who asks me how my time at Baylor has been. I am able to tell them that it’s amazing every time, and there isn’t even a hesitation or a stretch from the truth.
We all know and love the revenue sports like football and basketball, but pickleball has become a popular sport to play, especially among college students. It’s easy to learn and great to play with friends, and it doesn’t require God-given talent or athleticism in order to perform at a high level.
Baylor has 35 different club sports, but one of the hardest to overlook is the rock climbing team. If you’ve entered the McLane Student Life Center, you’ve definitely seen the 53-foot freestanding climbing wall. And if you’ve been to the SLC between the hours of 8 and 10 p.m. on Monday or Wednesday, you’ve probably heard the rock climbing team jamming out to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift or seen them navigating the best way to approach a new route.
Rock climbing is one of the many recreational activities featured at the McLane Student Life Center, and the annual Bear Climb allows students from Baylor and surrounding schools to participate in friendly competition while exploring new courses.
Heavy class loads often make opportunities for free time few and far between, but it’s important to keep your body healthy, and that includes working out. Whether you pick HOTWORX, Pure Barre, Club Pilates or the McLane Student Life Center, workout classes are a great option.
It isn’t that spending time alone is wrong. Everyone needs to recharge. But when “recharging” becomes a go-to activity, we need a paradigm shift. Fulfillment comes through relationships and community; isolation compounds bad habits and leaves us more lonely than ever.
After three years on Baylor’s campus, I feel like I know the place inside and out. One thing I’ve learned is that this university offers a lot to its undergraduate students. Whether you are looking for academic, emotional, mental or physical support, it’s more than likely that Baylor has a resource perfectly designed to provide that support and improve your life on campus.
This is not to say students should go around asking people whether or not they’re prescribed Adderall, and whether or not they’ve suffered from the consequences of the shortage. However, what we can all do is take this as an opportunity to be more patient with our peers and learn more about the stigma around medication.
I’m here to tell you a gym resolution isn’t out of reach. It’s possible, and it’s important for every person to improve their physical health.
It seems as though a student’s work load gets heavier each semester – each day, if we’re honest. With classes, work, homework, group projects, sleep and an attempt at holding a social life, it’s difficult to fit exercise in a “normal” hour range. And while Moody Memorial Library – a place for cognitive development – is open through the wee hours of each day, the McLane Student Life Center – a place for bodily development – does not offer equal hours of operation to Baylor students.
Does anyone carry little towels with them everywhere you go? If you visit the SLC, get comfortable doing this.
I cannot count the numerous times I have forgotten to bring a towel to the SLC because I have never worked out at a gym where personal towels were required. Therefore, it is hard for me to remember to do this at Baylor.
