While the event included a multitude of booths, food and educational speakers, the main show was the nearly pitch-black atmosphere during full totality. After today, a total solar eclipse will not cross the path of North America again until 2044, but even then, totality won’t be visible from Texas.

As Waco prepares to welcome a projected 100,000 visitors on Monday for Eclipse Over Texas, this year’s Diadeloso will be a uniquely busy one. But with all the buzz and excitement comes some confusion and questions. Here’s what you need to know about how the day is going to work.
Diadeloso week is here! With the university’s favorite day and a total solar eclipse happening at the same time, there’s no shortage of activities in Waco and on campus. Here’s a look at the week ahead.
With Eclipse Over Texas and Diadeloso both taking place on April 8, it’s not just the sun and moon that will align. Although Waco is estimated to host over 100,000 visitors, the focus of the day will still be Baylor students — and maybe the sudden daytime darkness.
Today, Dia is known for hosting a plethora of on-campus events for students, and is also typically used as an opportunity for students to get off campus and spend time with friends. This year’s Dia started off with an intramural tournament at 9 a.m., featuring games such as wiffleball, pickleball, cornhole and archery tag.
With a new body comprising the Chamber of Commerce this year, and new people behind the scenes organizing the events, this year’s celebration included new aspects like all-day live music and animals on campus.
Three different Baylor squads were competing in Stillwater, Okla., over the weekend, and they went a combined 1-7.
Baylor celebrates Dia as a way for students to bond with one another and celebrate what it means to be a Baylor Bear. Situated arguably in the most stressful point in the school year, Dia provides a break for students in the midst of the chaos.
Dealing with the sun and crowded events on Dia can be overwhelming, so here are a few tips to keep a cool head on the day of the bear.
Get to campus and immerse yourself in tradition — the way of the bear on the day of the bear.
To be clear, I wouldn’t trade Dia for anything. If you asked me if I’d rather go to homecoming events or take a day off, I’d take my free Tuesday any time. But I believe homecoming inspires a lot more feelings of warm fuzziness for the university than Dia does, with zero risk of sunburn and a whole lot less sweaty grossness.

Diadeloso. One of the most anticipated traditions of Baylor. An 83-year-old event that gives students a break from classes to engage in outdoor activities — not all of which happen to be on campus.
While most of the student body enjoyed the one-day vacation of Diadeloso, Baylor baseball had work to do. The Bears (14-22) outlasted Incarnate Word (11-24), 2-1 on Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark.
Tuesday marks Baylor’s annual holiday and everyone’s favorite excuse to wear tank tops: Diadeloso.
After the audience flocked to the stage during its performance, the band Honest Men was awarded First Place, the People’s Choice award and the opportunity to perform at Diadeloso – and no one would have guessed it was their first show after only one practice.
The Baylor Alumni Network changed its 2015 traditional Diadeloso summer venue from San Antonio at SeaWorld to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

As students walked along Fountain Mall on Diadeloso, several stopped to see a man sitting on what appeared to be an invisible chair, suspended for 30 minutes in a restful pose with one leg crossed over the other.
Waco police reported no arrests or citations in connection with Diadeloso celebrations yesterday.
There are two distinct groups that will be celebrating Diadeloso on Thursday. The campus crew and the 10th Streeters. The challenge in planning an event such as this is finding a way to make groups with obvious differences want to come together. The most obvious being booking a performer that will bridge the differences.
Social media comes with some unwritten rules, not the least of which is to watch what you post. It’s no secret that what you post, especially offensive and hateful content, stays with you forever.
The official Twitter feed for Diadeloso 2014 announced Friday that Christian alternative rock band Needtobreathe would be headlining the festivities on April 10.
Good music is defined by an individual’s taste. That being said, popular music is measured by the charts and according to the charts, Baylor has not recently booked any currently popular artists.
“In comparison with schools like UT [University of Texas at Austin], our campus is not smaller and not in a major city like Dallas or Austin,” said Dr. Kirk Wakefield, professor of retail marketing and holder of the Edwin W. Streetman Professorship in Retail Management. “Here in Waco we don’t have the draw to bands that bigger colleges near bigger cities have.”
Since the fertilizer plant explosion Wednesday in West, students have responded swiftly with prayers, donations and relief for victims.
The musical entertainment portion of Diadeloso had a different purpose this year. Rather than just celebrating the end of the semester, the Diadeloso final concert became another way for the Waco community to remember and raise money for those affected by the explosion in West.
Baylor and Waco police will be present on and off campus during Thursday’s Diadeloso celebration.
Lori Fogleman, director of media communications, said she did not know whether there will be more police officers stationed off-campus than usual; however, she said student leaders, such as residence hall community leaders, have received communication from the office of Kevin Jackson, vice president for student life, telling them to encourage students to stay safe and responsible.
It’s the day students look forward to all year: Diadeloso.
Thursday, classes are canceled and students have the opportunity to see bands, armadillos and a monkey on campus.
Though many Baylor students may be familiar with the use of Five For Fighting’s song “Chances” in the popular film “The Blind Side,” or have heard the band’s songs “Superman” and “100 Years” coming through their car radio, they can now experience the band live in concert.
At 8 p.m. Thursday on Fountain Mall, Five For Fighting will take the stage as the headlining act for Diadeloso, though Thursday’s weather forecast of the possibility of severe thunderstorms might complicate events.
