A once-in-a-lifetime eclipse which occurred over last year’s Diadeloso leaves this year’s celebration with standards that will be hard to top. Luckily, between Joshua Bassett and multiple unique attractions, the schedule for the “state fair” themed holiday on Tuesday will be packed.
The right playlist is necessary to set the tone for a day like Díadeloso. While the sun is out and classes are canceled, you’ll need the perfect songs to kick your day off right. Diadeloso week is here! With the university’s favorite day and a total solar eclipse happening at the same time, there’s no shortage of activities in Waco and on campus. Here’s a look at the week ahead.
With Eclipse Over Texas and Diadeloso both taking place on April 8, it’s not just the sun and moon that will align. Although Waco is estimated to host over 100,000 visitors, the focus of the day will still be Baylor students — and maybe the sudden daytime darkness.
Today, Dia is known for hosting a plethora of on-campus events for students, and is also typically used as an opportunity for students to get off campus and spend time with friends. This year’s Dia started off with an intramural tournament at 9 a.m., featuring games such as wiffleball, pickleball, cornhole and archery tag.
With a new body comprising the Chamber of Commerce this year, and new people behind the scenes organizing the events, this year’s celebration included new aspects like all-day live music and animals on campus.
Three different Baylor squads were competing in Stillwater, Okla., over the weekend, and they went a combined 1-7.
Baylor celebrates Dia as a way for students to bond with one another and celebrate what it means to be a Baylor Bear. Situated arguably in the most stressful point in the school year, Dia provides a break for students in the midst of the chaos.
Dealing with the sun and crowded events on Dia can be overwhelming, so here are a few tips to keep a cool head on the day of the bear.
Get to campus and immerse yourself in tradition — the way of the bear on the day of the bear.
To be clear, I wouldn’t trade Dia for anything. If you asked me if I’d rather go to homecoming events or take a day off, I’d take my free Tuesday any time. But I believe homecoming inspires a lot more feelings of warm fuzziness for the university than Dia does, with zero risk of sunburn and a whole lot less sweaty grossness.

Diadeloso. One of the most anticipated traditions of Baylor. An 83-year-old event that gives students a break from classes to engage in outdoor activities — not all of which happen to be on campus.
While most of the student body enjoyed the one-day vacation of Diadeloso, Baylor baseball had work to do. The Bears (14-22) outlasted Incarnate Word (11-24), 2-1 on Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark.
Tuesday marks Baylor’s annual holiday and everyone’s favorite excuse to wear tank tops: Diadeloso.
After the audience flocked to the stage during its performance, the band Honest Men was awarded First Place, the People’s Choice award and the opportunity to perform at Diadeloso – and no one would have guessed it was their first show after only one practice.
The Baylor Alumni Network changed its 2015 traditional Diadeloso summer venue from San Antonio at SeaWorld to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

As students walked along Fountain Mall on Diadeloso, several stopped to see a man sitting on what appeared to be an invisible chair, suspended for 30 minutes in a restful pose with one leg crossed over the other.
Waco police reported no arrests or citations in connection with Diadeloso celebrations yesterday.
There are two distinct groups that will be celebrating Diadeloso on Thursday. The campus crew and the 10th Streeters. The challenge in planning an event such as this is finding a way to make groups with obvious differences want to come together. The most obvious being booking a performer that will bridge the differences.
Social media comes with some unwritten rules, not the least of which is to watch what you post. It’s no secret that what you post, especially offensive and hateful content, stays with you forever.
The official Twitter feed for Diadeloso 2014 announced Friday that Christian alternative rock band Needtobreathe would be headlining the festivities on April 10.
