Diana Barrett, public relations director and volunteer coordinator for The Salvation Army in Waco, said the organization’s community kitchen is a place where any person can receive free meals — 365 days a year, including holidays. The kitchen serves breakfast and dinner every day, and it serves lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays since a local cafe serves on other days.

Baylor’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has elected new officers for the 2022-2023 school year. These include Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., junior and president Mary Watson Vergnolle; Napa, Calif., junior and vice president Elliott Dunham; Houston freshman and secretary Jillian Marty; Spring sophomore and membership outreach officer Chloe Vartanian; and Sammamish, Wash., junior and PR director Clara Lincicome.
Japanese Student Association is hosting its Japanese Spring Festival, or Harsumatsuri, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday outside the Bill Daniel Student Center in order to bring Japanese culture to the Baylor community.
Dr. Todd Buras, associate professor and chair of the philosophy department, estimated that roughly half of Baylor’s philosophy majors go to law school.
Prefume said that people barely experience Japanese culture in Waco and that she wants students to be exposed to Japanese culture when they’re in her office.
“Where are you from?” people ask me, and a third of them ask me, “Can you make sushi and ramen?” I was surprised when I first came to Baylor because I had never been asked this question in Japan.
Charla, or Spanish conversation hours, is meant to help students improve their Spanish skills. All Charla sessions are conducted by graduate students, according to a Baylor webpage on Charla.
