This past summer, I traveled to Jordan for the first time since I was a child. I was brimming with excitement in the months leading up to the trip, wrapping up my second semester of college while daydreaming about seeing family for the first time in over a decade and walking the streets I only remembered through faded memories and old photos. But what was supposed to be a trip about roots and reconnection became a reminder of the fragility of peace.

“Airlines are going to be more prepared the next time the government shuts down and makes these types of reduction demands,” Joel Martinez, aviation sciences adjunct professor and former director of aviation for the City of Waco, said. “The airlines are going to have a response plan set up or establish a reduction to certain communities.”

Beginning in February 2025 and lasting until 2029, My35 Waco South works on the three-mile stretch of I-35 between 12th Street and South Loop 340. Along this stretch, crews will widen I-35 to eight lanes, reconstruct overpasses and bridges and complete various other work on sidewalks and on-ramps and off-ramps. The winter storm prompted Baylor to transition to remote operations on Thursday and Friday for the safety of faculty and staff. “While a shelter in Waco may have 15 or 20 people to care for 100 to 200 hundred dogs, the shelter in Guatemala only has about three or four people treating twice the amount of animals,” Cunningham said. “So, the 12 people we are able to bring on this trip, including myself and Mia, really helps alleviate the workers at the shelter too.”

Outdoor Adventure is gearing up for this year’s spring break trips, in which students can travel to national parks and lace up their boots for hiking, rock climbing, canoeing and mountain biking excursions. Well, if you are like me and can’t afford to go somewhere, stay in Waco. It can be fun. Over spring break, there are lots to do and even if you don’t want to do any of that, stay home, sleep in and watch some new shows.
While most Bears go off to have their own adventures during spring break, North Russell Residence Hall residents stick together for their travels. This year, Baylor and Beyond, the living learning community at North Russell, will travel to the east coast for a week in New York City.
Though many of us may believe it’s time to relax, that is not the consensus for all college students. I mean, there’s dozens of movies about the notorious week in March when college students go crazy on beaches and get in all sorts of trouble.
I understand social media is a gadget that allows us to inform others about what we’re up to, but know that “college student” and “spring break” don’t mix well, especially in the eyes of those who are not in college.
Only 20% of colleges across the U.S. have the same 2023 spring break dates as Baylor, with the remaining 80% having their break planned for later.
