Baylor moved forward Monday with plans to facilitate student discussion of sensitive topics like human sexuality and relationships between people of different faiths, inviting suggestions for topics at a public forum open to students.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Tuesday that President Barack Obama’s administration has “fought against religion” and sought to substitute a “secular” agenda for one grounded in faith.

Same-sex marriage moved one step closer to the Supreme Court on Tuesday when a federal appeals court ruled California’s ban unconstitutional, saying it serves no purpose other than to “lessen the status and human dignity” of gays.

Baylor is a Baptist college. With that comes a target on the university’s back at which bloggers and anonymous commenters can throw cheap shots. When inaccurate reporting leads to slandering of the Baylor name, however, the attacks can no longer be written off as members of a hungry media grabbing at air in hopes it is their next meal ticket.

Baylor is no longer ranked on the Princeton Review’s list of “LGBT-Unfriendly” colleges, after holding the No. 11 spot in both 2010 and 2009. LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Dr. Kevin Jackson, vice president for student life, is expected to come to an official decision today on whether to grant a charter to a group promoting discussion of issues pertaining to gay and lesbian students, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

The Student Activities Charter Council has informed members of the Sexual Identity Forum, a group of Baylor students promoting discussion of homosexuality and other sexual preferences, that they will not recommend granting the forum a charter.
