One man remains unaccounted for Tuesday evening after two construction workers were dragged to the bottom of the Brazos River while building the bridge that will connect McLane Stadium and the Baylor Law School.

The Baylor School of Law has a longstanding colony of feral cats on its campus, a colony the Baylor Law School chapter of the Student Legal Defense Fund is working to control through a process called Trap, Neuter, Release.

“Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapters are law student groups that are affiliated with the Animal Legal Defense Fund and share its mission to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system,” Skylar Simons, a second-year law student and president of the Baylor ALDF chapter said.

Whoever said bigger is better never went to Baylor Law School.

According to the average first-year section size of the nine law schools in Texas, Baylor Law School is the smallest in the state with an average of 42 students. Its percentage of students who pass the bar, however, is the largest.

Baylor Law School students and faculty have teamed up with Veterans One Stop, a veterans support facility in Waco, to offer free legal aid.

Veterans One Stop is a coalition of various organizations and agencies that offers aid to veterans and their spouses, said Maggie McCarthy, the coordinator of Veterans Coalition for the Heart of Texas, who is in charge of finding and bringing such organizations together.

Baylor Law School is partnering with Discoverlaw.org to teach Waco area high school students about career opportunities in law professions.

As part of the partnership, the Baylor Law School will host Discoverlaw High School Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Waco High School, University High School, the McLennan County Challenge Academy and La Vega High School.

The Baylor Law School will host its eighth annual People’s Law School event from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Participants can register online at Baylor.edu/law/pls. Registration ends at noon on Friday. Check-ins and walk-in registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Baylor Law School.

Baylor Law School ranked 24th in the Top 25 Law Schools in the nation, according to GraduatePrograms.com.

The rankings, released Tuesday, came as a result of student ratings and reviews from more than 4,000 graduate students and recent graduates from over 150 accredited law schools across the United States. The rankings use a 10-star system, with one star being the lowest and 10 stars being the best.

In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month, McLennan County will host an adoption day at 1 p.m. today at the Baylor Law School for 20 children who will be officially adopted into their families. November is National Adoption Awareness Month.
The event is meant to celebrate the adoption of 20 children in McLennan County and raise awareness about the need to adopt children in foster care.

It was literally a win-win situation for Baylor Law School when adjunct professor Robert Little took his two mock trial teams to the National Trial Competition in Austin last weekend.

Baylor Law School beat out Baylor Law School in a recent American Association for Justice Regional Student Trial Advocacy Competition. The law school sent two teams to the regional competition last Thursday to Sunday in Dallas, where they both knocked out 14 other teams to make it to the final round and ended up competing against each other for the title of regional champion.
