Baylor campus is to house its first congressional hearing to explore the various economic opportunities available to veterans in Texas.

U.S. Rep. Bill Flores, chairman of the House of Veterans’ Affairs subcommittee on economic opportunity, is holding the hearing.

The hearing is titled “Texas’ Innovative Approaches to Jobs and Employment for Veterans.”

It takes a lot of energy to store all the data 1 billion people and 20 million businesses plug into their computers, phones, tablets and gadgets. So as part of an effort to become carbon neutral, Microsoft Corp. has entered a 20-year deal to buy power from a new wind farm in Texas, the first time the tech giant is directly purchasing electricity from a specific source.

Baylor’s Tau Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. crowned Phoenix senior Britahn Newbill as its 21st Miss Black and Gold on Sunday.

“I am so excited,” Newbill said. “I am just really, really, really excited. I don’t know. That’s all I can say.”

Six women competed in the annual pageant hoping to become 2013 Miss Black and Gold. The ladies competed in three segments: talent, poise and an interview round. In the poise portion, contestants showcased their evening wear.

Mesquite junior Deondria Murphy is Baylor’s first ever Miss Green and Gold.

Tonight 21 Baylor women competed in the first annual Miss Green and Gold pageant and after deliberating over intermission, judges crowned Murphy.

For the Texas Senate seats, Republican Sen. John Cornyn is in a primary runoff against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton on May 26. Cornyn led the March 3 primary 43% to 41%, but neither cleared the majority threshold. Trump has not endorsed either candidate. Democrats have not won statewide in Texas since 1994. Democratic state Rep. James Talarico won his party’s nomination over Rep. Jasmine Crockett. A March Impact Research poll showed Talarico leading Cornyn 43% to 41% and Paxton 44% to 43% among likely voters.

Junior infielder Robert De La Garza made his Baylor debut when the lights were brightest: facing the third-best team in the country in a major league park. His journey of grinding through two years at the JUCO level prepared him to perform for the Bears.
