If you’re in search of the week’s best new music, look no further. Here’s a short list of the music worth a listen to start your week off right.

Heathers | Feb. 22 | 7:30 p.m. | Waco Civic Theatre, 1517 Lake Air Drive | $18 – $20 | Silent House Theatre company puts on a production of this classic, ’80s-inspired musical in collaboration with Waco Civic Theater.

The next one has to be “Joanie” by Clairo, my personal favorite. This one’s instrumental, but Clairo really knows how to tell a story without words. She composed this song about her beloved dog Joanie, using playful piano melodies and angelic harmonies throughout. Give it a listen; it really does sound like a theme song for a puppy!

If you’re the type to cry at “Nemo” or fast forward through ASPCA commercials, prepare your tissues, but keep an open mind. “Shrinking” will cheer you up after it tears you down.

If gushy indie music is your jam, you’ll love, well, really anything by Leith Ross. “(You) On My Arm” comes just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s a soft, pretty song with lovely lyrics that just make the rest of us want to lie down in the street a little bit.

For a more unique experience, take your Valentine to the park, specifically Mouth of the Bosque. There are tons of trails and it’s next to the river. Grab yourself a picnic blanket or take a seat at the gazebo to create the perfect evening.

“Cannonballers” transports this Texan to a sunny beach somewhere in California with sandy clothes and a sea of freckles returning to my cheeks. Do both of us a favor and listen to this entire album.

As the spring semester swings into action, many students are hitting refresh on their school supplies. From pencil bag essentials to organizational must-haves, here are some suggestions from the Arts and Life Desk.

“I had some things happen [at Baylor] that were fairly serendipitous or providential that opened some doors for me into expressions of faith that I really needed … There was this sense of ‘OK, there is a path for someone who maybe is less traditionally Baptist,’ and that remained true for me. It starts at Baylor, where I felt blessed to explore some things.”

This year, the tradition returns in its full glory, opening with a piece called “Light Beyond Shadow.” According to Dr. Lynne Gackle, director of choral activities, the piece will set the theme for the concert, representing how the world and Baylor in particular have moved through the pandemic.

It’s a unique loyalty that prompts dozens of fans to wear T-shirts that read “I hate Matty Healy” to the concert, and simultaneously tote around $100 worth of merchandise, but it’s the sort of loyalty that Healy and his shows inspire.

“One of the big things that the monster is trying to teach Conor is that people are complex, and sometimes two seemingly different things can be true simultaneously.”

The answer is very clear. Judgment and mean comments directed toward other women just “aren’t giving” — so to speak. Please give the “pick-me” label a rest.

“You share the stoke together,” Balzora said. “The stoke is like the excitement … That’s how I came up with the name for the club. I wanted people to be excited about it and try something new and do it together.”

On a dark Halloween night, a crescent moon hung low overhead as an autumnal breeze blew costumed concertgoers like Cruella de Vil, Spider-Man and Princess Peach to Jones Concert Hall for a Halloween Organ Concert that was sure to cause Waco’s ghosts and ghouls to stir.

Austen said “How Gay Thou Art” is an opportunity for LGBT people to have more representation in media and to show younger members of the community there are people like them out there. Austen and Keller want their audience to know that despite the trauma they went through from growing up in an evangelical setting, it does get better.

Uhde said hopefully since becoming a club sport, Quidditch will be able to reach out to more students to provide them with the opportunity to learn more and join the sport.
