Baylor students are sandwiched between two factors that compress the value of their education. On one side, a tightening job market is bringing prospects for young graduates back down to COVID-19 lows. On the other side, disproportionate price increases in the already fast-growing industry of higher education continue to push the cost of a degree toward hard-to-believe figures.

As rivalry week continues, it’s important to examine how other national rivalries impact us, particularly those that sit atop Capitol Hill. Political polarization between Republicans and Democrats is at an all-time high, and students can combat this by engaging in civil discourse amongst each other.

Baylor finished the night with eight team blocks, narrowly edging Texas’ seven, but the Longhorns’ efficiency on offense proved decisive. Baylor never led in the match, and every time the Bears found momentum defensively, errors halted their progress.

As tough as it is to swallow an unexpected $5,000 increase in annual bills, the price hike may not be entirely unwarranted when you take a closer look. But if Baylor expects 10% more money from its families, students are equally warranted to expect a 10% better Baylor experience.

“One of the aspects that I think I’m personally most excited for is a trophy. So the winner of the game will be getting a trophy. And this is to be a traveling trophy that goes back and forth between the two institutions, whoever wins that year,” Davis said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I was lucky to be part of Baylor and compete in college tennis,” Matias Soto said. “It was four amazing years, but I was ready to move on to do what I wanted to do for such a long time: to be in the professional tour consistently.”
