Every homecoming matters. Whether it is your first Baylor Homecoming, your second, third or even 20th, we can gain more precious moments here in the place we spent years calling home. Even when new traditions are formed, we can always appreciate looking back at past homecomings with fondness, and these memories grow more dear the older we become.
Baylor Homecoming traditions help bridge the gap for out-of-state students by hosting unique community experiences. Many states don’t indulge in the spirited football games or the big homecoming traditions that Texas has.
While tradition can feel cheesy even to the biggest of Baylor Bears, I would never call Baylor Homecoming “overhyped.”
Next time you or your friends try to use the “I don’t like sports” excuse, keep in mind that football games are just as much a social event as they are an athletic one. They’re about green and gold outfits and cowboy boots, tailgates in Touchdown Alley and the communal walk across the bridge, constant Sic ‘ems and the Baylor Line.
The slime cap is an age-old Baylor tradition. As a staple of freshman attire, it became a Baylor tradition when students would wear a green cap with a yellow bill that proudly displayed their graduation year and hometown.
