Despite the work that goes into each position, each Waco Hall staff member pointed to others as the essential pieces in Sing’s success. Spring senior Jillian Herman noted the efforts of the performers themselves, Brazoria senior Isabella Davis the dedication of professional Waco Hall staff and Plano junior Oliver Dillard the importance of stagehands. All three conveyed Sing as a tradition not marked by performances or ticket sales, but by the cooperation of all parts in one machine.

According to Plano junior Oliver Dillard, a Waco Hall Ticketing Office staff member, the ticketing office allocates a set number of tickets to administration each year. The seats are usually in the center orchestra, and many are still unclaimed by the time Sing comes along. These tickets open to the public an hour before each show, so students can come early to secure a last-minute ticket.

Upon its founding, Baylor banned the chartering of national fraternities and sororities. It wasn’t until 1975 that the ban was finally lifted, the floodgates opened and Baylor Greek life’s tumultuous and iconic history began.

“I write down for five minutes as much as I can on a paper, and it’s not lyrics or anything,” Todd said. “It’s just a stream of consciousness, just getting everything out of my head onto the paper. And usually by then, I’ll have, I’ll use the riffs that they sent in, and I’ll use the music that we have, and kind of just, put what pops in my head and see what sticks.”

The tradition of fraternity sweethearts and little sisses has been passed down for decades, as many women have served in the role and still do today at Baylor. For ZZZ, “Noche” has been around since the early 2010s, according to Tinker. Despite a lack of charter from the university for ZZZ, the group still functions similarly to a fraternity, but aims to create a safer environment for college kids to have fun, Tinker said.

The National Panhellenic Board of Directors adopted Unanimous Agreement X, a piece of legislation that prohibits the attendance of National Panhellenic Council sorority women at men’s rush events, in November 2011. However, Baylor Panhellenic Council had yet to enforce the policy — until now.

This past month, the Supreme Council of Sigma Alpha Epsilon eliminated New Member Education, or pledging, from the experience of the national fraternity after half a century of the practice.

The fraternity Pi Kappa Phi has been suspended from campus activities and is under investigation by the chapter’s national office because of activities concerning new members, or pledges.

“The national headquarters received a report of alleged inappropriate new member activities involving the chapter at Baylor,” said Justin Angotti, the assistant executive director of education and accountability, from the national office of Pi Kappa Phi.

Fraternities on campus are already in the midst of Rush for the 2013-2014 school year as the groups broadcast their Greek letters through t-shirts and fliers.

College sophomores and upperclassmen can participate in the Interfraternity Council’s (IFC) Rush process during the fall semester. Fraternity Rush lasts two weeks at the beginning of both the fall and the spring semesters.
