This October, BYU TV is recording a docuseries to advocate for the Christian vision in higher education, featuring different universities around the country — including Baylor.

Instead of wasting our time attempting to solve the great question of why there’s evil and suffering in the world, we should take a step away from our logical mindsets and step into a mindset of empathy.

Baylor was recognized by the Great Colleges to Work For program as an Honor Roll institution Friday. The acknowledgment is awarded by an institutional questionnaire that captures employment data, workplace policies and a survey administered to faculty and staff. Additionally, the primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback.

A variety of professors came together to discuss feminist issues within their disciplines at the Christian Feminisms: Faith, Gender, and Justice panel on Thursday afternoon.

Our “best” is never characterized by a carnal, self-protecting fear, or even by our grandest worldly accomplishments, but by the fear of God. My perfectly crafted self-image is nothing compared to the image of God within me.

Sometimes people approach faith like it’s a competition. A verse or passage is read, and instead of seeking to understand it, the focus shifts to proving who is right. When the rush to be right takes over, conversations that could be moments of learning or reflection turn into debates about who can quote Scripture the fastest or defend their interpretation the strongest.

“We should be proud of our cultural and ethnic identities, but that pride should never, of course, make us feel better than other people,” Van Gorder said. “We should use our cultural heritages as resources, not only to share who we are, but to learn and listen and validate other people.”

Truett Seminary, the University Libraries and the College of Engineering and Computer Science will be hosting “AI and The Church” conference on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The conference will feature five presentations over topics related to AI and its application to seminary as well as a panel Q&A. According to the event’s schedule, each speaker will present for an hour followed by a 15 minute break.

Today, Vertical Ministries is a 1940s revival, a living room worship movement and a campus-wide ministry. With a history as rich as its mission, Vertical holds a special place in the hearts of Baylor students, echoing roots planted by generations before.

“That’s the most fundamental category with which we ought to interact with one another,” Foley said. “You are a person created in the image of God, and therefore worthy of my love.”

Maxwell said that while this is a season of mourning for the Catholic community, it can dually function as a season of remembrance and gratitude for the dedication Pope Francis showed the church.

I was depressed and anxious. Utterly lost. And then I saw a vision of the throne room of heaven. Nothing was ever the same.

Hallow app founder Alex Jones left the Catholic Church in high school but told The Pillar, a Catholic news publication, that he returned to the Church after college through meditative and contemplative techniques. In April 2021, venture capital group General Catalyst poured $12 million into his idea for a Catholic version of the secular meditation apps he enjoyed in his early adulthood.

“I think it would be good for Christians who are growing in their faith to explore this topic,” she said. “It also deepens our appreciation for what He did for us.”

What’s beautiful is that you don’t need the aesthetic to be Christian. I have been to churches with beautiful stained-glass walls, and I’ve been to churches with no walls at all. I’ve experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit in a small worship service with less than a dozen people singing in a dialect I barely understand, and I have experienced the Holy Spirit in a gathering of hundreds.

Ph.D. students Mitch and Libby Minyard, who were married in the summer of 2024, now call Waco their first home together as a couple. Between their studies and their spiritual lives, the couple has learned to embrace Baylor as the backdrop for the beginning of their marriage.

“I had the sixth note on top of this big lookout point called Double Peak Park, where I was there with the photographer, and the ring of course,” Small said. “And the sixth note was inside of a Bible that said Amelia Small, which is my last name.”

“All Christian traditions can appreciate Easter for what it is, and I think the preparation season is a really good opportunity, for reflection, for connection, for understanding,” Menesses said. “I think that’s something that we should be able to share in and should be encouraged to be a community wide process.”

While Baylor likes to advertise our Greek system as more morally upstanding than secular schools, they are only right to a degree. Yes, we have Phi Chi singing hymns during Sing. It’s a sweet sentiment, but we as a system have bigger fish to fry.

In a world where instant gratification is the norm, Lent helps serve as a reminder that we don’t need to succumb to every desire or craving. Giving up something you enjoy just for a short time will help strengthen your ability to make disciplined choices in several areas of life like work, relationships and personal goals.

“At Baylor there is no need to hide or shed your religious beliefs to engage in academic study. That is a real gift that Baylor offers to students,” Stahl said. “Professors may not start every class with their faith beliefs, but students can be assured that all their teachers are faithful people who do their work for the enrichment of both Baylor and their faith communities.”

With the guidance of the Lenten Devotional series, Simpson hopes that all members of the faith will use this season as a time to grow in unity, despite differences in practice.

Baylor is now faced with a socio-political crossroad: uphold its commitment to diversity as a private university or blend in with the unavoidable fate of state education.

In 1844, the Texas Baptist Education Society petitioned the Texas Congress to charter a Baptist university. 180 years later, Baptists are slowly becoming a minority at Baylor.

On Sunday, senior pastor Jimmy Dorrell welcomed almost two full rows of college students to the service. Despite the church’s majority population of homeless adults, Dorrell said the church would never have existed without the inclusion and dedication of students.

“Even before the light dawns, he is on his way,” Moore said. “He hears you in the darkness. You just keep making a sound, and you’re safe. You’re safe. You’re going to be fine because he is on his way.”

Find your ultimate peace and joy in Jesus and the community He will provide for you, whether that be in a chapter in Greek life or another community on campus.

“It is all for the kingdom of heaven. We’re hoping that people can come this afternoon and maybe hear about the gospel for the first time ever,” Trawick said.

In a particularly polarizing election season, the panelists urge Christians to step back from a combative attitude when it comes to politics and start listening to other perspectives.

While Columbia was nice, Terrell said what sets Baylor apart is its students. His Christian faith allows him to build relationships with students to find their “sense of purpose.”
