I believe transparency is vital to any news outlet, and I would like to address the response to The Lariat’s poll on Dave Aranda. Additionally, explain the posting of our social media community guidelines following the response to a separate story. I stand behind and support all the decisions my staff has made over the past few weeks and want to relay that to our audience clearly.

Football is a staple of Baylor’s Homecoming — the oldest such tradition in the nation. Throughout the longstanding institution, there have been numerous memorable moments that magnify the occasion.

Homecoming is a celebration — a time to gather, get to know one another, share ideas and memories and have fun. Ultimately, I always knew that homecoming was an opportunity, but I never knew it as a blessing until COVID-19.

Excluding Baylor’s 2021 Big 12 Championship run, when the team went 6-0 at home against Big 12 teams, the Bears are 7-14 against Power Four schools at McLane Stadium under head coach Dave Aranda. With Saturday’s win over the Wildcats, the Bears are now 2-6 at home in games decided by one score since 2022.

Many students reported receiving an email from the Waco Hall Ticket Office Sunday. The email warned that because the student bought tickets for one of the first three home football games and didn’t attend, one more occurrence would delay them in purchasing tickets for the Homecoming game Nov. 1.

“Some of the Sawyer that we saw today was maybe the Sawyer from two years ago or further back,” head coach Dave Aranda said. “We’ve got to get the Sawyer that we’ve got now, we’ve got to get him back to himself as last year or the beginning of this year. That was not what was happening today.”
