The statue of co-founder Robert Emmet Bledsoe Baylor sits at the heart of campus. Because of Judge Baylor’s connections to the Confederacy and slavery, daily sit-ins are being held continually in front of the statue to educate others and push for the statue’s removal.

The annual university song and dance show, All-University Sing, is usually in full swing by this time of year. However, the late start to the semester and moratorium on campus events due to COVID-19 has put a roadblock in the usual schedule of events.

Ken Starr, president and chancellor of Baylor University, wrote a column featured in both The National Review Online and the Baylor Lariat which overestimates the power of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in respect to for-profit corporations.

My mom has the softest hands. I was never sure as to why or how. It was an enigma to me. As far as I knew, she didn’t use any special moisturizer or lotion. I was surprised every time I held her hand, the skin all silky smooth. Her hands have been through so much, you’d expect them to be rough, crooked and ugly. But for some reason they’re not. My mother has beautiful hands.

In 1963, preaching at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I am ashamed and appalled that 11 o’clock on Sunday morning is the most segregated hour in Christian America.”
Five decades later, Sunday mornings remain a highly segregated hour. Roughly 5 percent of the nation’s churches are racially integrated, and half of them are in the midst of transitioning to either all-white or all-black, according to CNN.

News broke last week that Tesla, a California-based electric car company, had been banned from selling cars in several states due to lobbying pressure from existing car dealers. Though both sides in the debate are quick to claim they are fighting for a “free market,” there’s hypocrisy on both sides.

The soccer world’s attention is currently building hype for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil coming in June. While the pomp and circumstance is flooding in South America, the site of the 2022 game across the world is turning into a humanitarian crisis.
