In the age of iPhones, MacBooks and Teslas, battery-powered devices aren’t just the future — they are our lives. But with great technological power comes scientific responsibility, and one Baylor professor is dedicated to keeping people and their devices as safe as possible.

The Mind-Body Medicine Research Lab researches the connection between the human mind and physical health through various methods like hypnosis and mindfulness. The lab is led by Dr. Gary Elkins, a professor of psychology and neuroscience and the leading researcher and expert on the use of hypnotherapy for multiple medical problems.

With the small pre-vet population of students at Baylor, there are limited resources to help these students learn about life in the veterinary world. However, the Pre-Vet Medical Association is a student organization that helps pre-vet students shadow, volunteer and be leaders in the Baylor and Waco community.

I was so terrified of the answers to my questions that I simply stopped asking. How could the Church love gay people but hate that they were gay? Why did the same people who quoted Exodus and Deuteronomy refer to other human beings as “illegals”? Was I actually going to go to hell because my family went to church on Sunday instead of Saturday? If God was good, why was I so alone?

According to the International Mission Board, the 70 million members of the global deaf population are “some of the least evangelized people on Earth.” Only about 2% of deaf people have been introduced to the gospel. With no deaf churches between Dallas and Austin, that was just as true in Central Texas as anywhere — until Richard Larson came to town.

Inconspicuously situated on a once-vacant lot in a sleepy Waco neighborhood on the 1100 block of Taylor Street is an array of crop beds growing vegetables such as onions, cabbage, peas and sorghum. The property is the site of Global Revive — a nonprofit organization founded in 2013 to “revive our world back to nature” by encouraging people to grow their own food.

MSPL follows the model “Pray, Stay, Raise and Go” when facing disasters, according to Sarah Walker, BearAid senior coordinator for service. Directly following the disaster, BearAid stays in Waco, allowing first responders to do their jobs and praying for those affected. Now, BearAid and MSPL are in the raise phase.
