While I appreciate having many options in a gas station, I draw the line when I am waiting forever to check out and the building is holding too many people. Fun fact: Every time I step foot in a Buc-ee’s, I am crammed in there like a sardine and I am run over by someone who apparently can’t wait another moment to buy the beef jerky they’re addicted to. Not worth it.

Founded 12 years ago to combat human trafficking in Waco, Unbound Now has become a global nonprofit organization. Unbound executive director Kristi Hayes said it started with a small local church group that refused to let the issue go unnoticed in the community.

Senate Bill IV was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on Dec. 18, 2023. The new law clamps down on illegal immigration in various ways, but its largest impact is making illegal immigration a state crime in Texas. Professor of preaching Dr. Jared E. Alcántara has been named director of the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching, which prepares students at Truett Theological Seminary and offers continuing education for other pastors and ministers. In this role, Alcántara will help put to use a $1.25 million grant Baylor received to assist with the Compelling Preaching Initiative.

With the exception of a proposition to increase the mandatory retirement age for state judges, Texans passed all proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot into law Tuesday. According to McLennan County elections administrator Jared Goldsmith, 538 people voted at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center, which was a newly appointed voting site on Election Day.

The Humane Society of Central Texas has nearly 200 dogs waiting to be fostered and provides resources to set foster applicants up for success. Brooke Farrell, the Humane Society’s director of development and public relations, said that while foster parents may only be taking one dog under their wing, they are doing an act of service for other dogs at the shelter by decreasing the number on the at-risk list and freeing up a crate.
