Baylor finished the night with eight team blocks, narrowly edging Texas’ seven, but the Longhorns’ efficiency on offense proved decisive. Baylor never led in the match, and every time the Bears found momentum defensively, errors halted their progress.

The Bears opened conference play Friday night with a 1-0 loss to in-state rival Texas Tech. The Red Raiders’ only score came off a penalty kick by senior forward Peyton Parsons.

Sawyer Robertson leads the Big 12 with 1,070 yards passing and has received some early-season Heisman buzz. He joins LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier and Penn State’s Drew Allar as the company’s latest college signees.

When Baylor women’s basketball took the floor Monday for its first practice of the fall, it did so with several fresh faces. After falling short of a Big 12 title for the first time since 2009-10, head coach Nicki Collen reloaded the Bears’ roster with a plethora of transfers. Collen said the team intentionally brought in players who have produced in previous places.

Equestrian

The No. 5 Baylor equestrian team suffered two losses during the weekend, dropping its record to 8-5. The Bears fell 11-9 to No. 7 Kansas State University and 11-7 to No. 4 Oklahoma State University. Both meets were on the road for the Bears.

“We went into these meets knowing they were an uphill battle, but I am still pleased with our performance,” head coach Ellen White said.

Golf

The Baylor men’s golf team competed in its first tournament of the spring Monday and Tuesday at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio and one of its golfers came out on top. Sophomore Kyle Jones finished 7 under par with a total score of 206, and even tied a career low round of 67 to claim his first career victory.
