From spring showers to fall flowers, senior midfielder Ashley Merrill’s hard work in the offseason paid off, as her historic four-minute hat trick led to Baylor soccer’s 7-0 blowout win over Abilene Christian University Sunday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.
“We always kind of talk about how you have to go down before you go up,” Aranda said. “It’s easier to talk about than to go through that. But that’s where we’re at. I just feel like the character of the coaches and our players and just the integrity of it all, for sure, is going to be tested because it’s tough and you’re inviting a bunch of hate. But we have the makings of a good team.”
The Bears led by two possessions with 11:00 left in the third quarter, but the Utes stormed back with 17-straight points to win the non-conference bout.
Baylor soccer tipped off a six-game homestand with a 2-1 loss to SMU Thursday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Mustangs were the first team to score on the Bears in nearly 250 minutes, dating back to their 1-1 draw with Texas A&M on Aug. 26.
With a postseason run in the rearview mirror, Baylor men’s golf looks to take the success from last year and claw its way back to the national stage.
Despite a star performance from freshman outside hitter Kyndal Stowers, No. 14 Baylor volleyball lost to SMU in five sets on Wednesday at the Moody Coliseum in Dallas. The loss drops the Bears to 1-3 to start the season.
