After surviving a 35-25 road win over Kansas State earlier in the season, the Baylor Bears set out to win with authority as the away team against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan.
The Bears left no doubt in this road matchup by throttling the Jayhawks 59-14 in a strong showing by the Bears on the road.
After losing four of its first five matches to start Big 12 play, Baylor won its second conference match of the season on Wednesday night against Kansas State. This was the first home conference win of the season for Baylor after losing its first four home match. The Bears won 3-1 overall, 18-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-20. With the win, Baylor moves to 10-13 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. Kansas State falls to 14-6 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.
With Baylor’s win against Kansas State, the Bears have totaled five wins so far. Baylor has to win at least one of the two remaining games to be bowl eligible.
The difference between five wins and six wins in college football is a lot bigger than just one win. The sixth win, and the opportunity to play in a bowl game, gives a university a lot of exposure and a lot of money.
Beating either Texas Tech or Oklahoma State would give Baylor a lot more than just bragging rights.
