Defensive linemen Siaki “Apu” Ika, Gabe Hall and Jaxon Player merge together on the line of scrimmage to create quite the trio for opposing offensive coordinators to deal with. Each head has a unique role, but joined, they serve to wreak havoc for opposing offenses.

The faces change, but the headlines stay the same for Baylor tennis. The men and women hoisted two Big 12 championship trophies last weekend as both teams ended the regular season as conference champions for the third consecutive year.

Baylor football was ranked No. 13 in the inaugural College Football Playoff poll released on Tuesday night. The Bears were one of five Big 12 teams ranked.

The No. 5 Baylor equestrian team suffered two losses during the weekend, dropping its record to 8-5. The Bears fell 11-9 to No. 7 Kansas State University and 11-7 to No. 4 Oklahoma State University. Both meets were on the road for the Bears.

“We went into these meets knowing they were an uphill battle, but I am still pleased with our performance,” head coach Ellen White said.

After surviving a 35-25 road win over Kansas State earlier in the season, the Baylor Bears set out to win with authority as the away team against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan.

The Bears left no doubt in this road matchup by throttling the Jayhawks 59-14 in a strong showing by the Bears on the road.

After losing four of its first five matches to start Big 12 play, Baylor won its second conference match of the season on Wednesday night against Kansas State. This was the first home conference win of the season for Baylor after losing its first four home match. The Bears won 3-1 overall, 18-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-20. With the win, Baylor moves to 10-13 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. Kansas State falls to 14-6 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.

With Baylor’s win against Kansas State, the Bears have totaled five wins so far. Baylor has to win at least one of the two remaining games to be bowl eligible.

The difference between five wins and six wins in college football is a lot bigger than just one win. The sixth win, and the opportunity to play in a bowl game, gives a university a lot of exposure and a lot of money.

Beating either Texas Tech or Oklahoma State would give Baylor a lot more than just bragging rights.
