No. 7 Baylor softball has jumped out to a 9-0 start – the best record since the 14-0 season start in 2011. However, that spotless record will be put to the test as Baylor hosts No. 2 Oregon tonight at Getterman Stadium to kick off the 2015 Baylor Invitational. This is the first ranked opponent the Bears will face this season, putting a lot of importance on the nationally televised matchup.

No. 10 Baylor softball showcased new faces and veteran talent in the team’s season opening tournament Friday afternoon, and despite some sluggish innings, the Bears blew past Wichita State 7-4 and Stephen F. Austin 10-3 at Getterman Stadium.

When senior left-hander Whitney Canion is on her game, there are few hitters in all of college softball that can hope to hit off of her. McNeese State’s lineup learned that the hard way, as Canion threw her fifth no-hitter and second seven-inning no-hitter of her career on Wednesday at Getterman Stadium.

The Bears were able to use early offense to their advantage, scoring seven runs through three innings in a decisive 7-1 victory over the visiting North Texas Mean Green Tuesday at Getterman Stadium.

Sophomore designated player Linsey Hays really wanted a hit. She came up to bat in a tie game in the bottom of the seventh inning with an out on the board and extra innings threatening. She had Baylor’s only other RBI, a double down the left field line in the second inning to score sophomore third baseman Sarah Smith, and her demeanor told us she wanted another.

Sometimes, all you need is a spark. Coming off of a dominant 7-1 win against UTSA on Wednesday, it seemed as though the Baylor bats finally came to life once again.

After playing non-conference games, No. 14 Baylor softball looks to re-enter Big 12 conference play with a home weekend series against Kansas on today, Saturday and Sunday.

A day after losing two games to No. 16 Louisiana in a double-header, No. 14 Baylor looked to regain their mojo offensively in a midweek game against UTSA in San Antonio. The Bears were able to do just that in a 7-1 victory over the in-state rivals on Wednesday night.

No. 14 Baylor softball knew it was in for a tough ride when it scheduled No. 16 Louisiana in a mid-week, non-conference, double-header Tuesday night in Waco. The Ragin Cajuns did not disappoint, taking advantage of every opportunity to win back-to-back games 5-2 and 7-4 at Getterman Stadium.

No. 12 Baylor and No. 13 Oklahoma met in a battle of Big 12 softball dominance over the weekend at Getterman Stadium. The Bears dropped the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday, but earned a come-from-behind win Sunday to salvage a 2-1 series split.

After losing the first two games of the series in heartbreaking fashion, Baylor softball found themselves in desperate need a win to keep themselves alive in the Big 12 race. On Sunday afternoon, the Bears (30-9, 4-3) overcame a disruptive rain delay after the fourth to come back and win an 8-6 thriller at Getterman to give Oklahoma (32-9, 9-1) their first Big 12 loss of the season.

Leading off the second inning, junior third baseman Sarah Smith smashed a ball to left field that looked like it was gone; it fell just a few feet foul. Such was the day for Baylor softball in a disappointing 2-0 loss to drop the series to No. 13 Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.

It was a game of missed opportunities as No. 12 Baylor softball stranded seven runners on the way to falling to No. 13 Oklahoma 3-2 in the first game of the three-game weekend series against the Sooners.

Sometimes it feels like senior pitcher Whitney Canion has been at Baylor forever. Thanks to multiple injury-plagued seasons, this is Canion’s sixth year on campus. Throughout all the adversity, Canion has forged her path as the unquestioned greatest pitcher in Baylor softball history.
