“We want to know that the companies coming here have hired our students before, because I don’t want a company showing up that’s just here to check the box,” Rylander said. “I want them to come and actually hire our students. So if they have history hiring our students, they get on the list to get invited. It’s a privilege for companies to be here.”

Along with a completely revised core curriculum and new electives, the total credit hours required to complete a major or secondary major has dropped from 36 to 30. Many prerequisites, which often barred non-majors from enrolling in a course, have also been stripped.

It’s like in high school, when people would say student government, prom king or queen and homecoming court are all popularity contests. The well-known people always win. It was networking before we even knew what it was.

When we were kids, the words “bud” and “buddy” were terms of endearment. But as a college student, those terms feel demeaning, rude and belittling.

If you have never picked up a golf club and you’re a business major, add golf lessons and golf clubs to your Christmas list. And if you already play golf as a business major, keep practicing. Nothing is more embarrassing than shooting a 107 with a potential client.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers began an official Baylor chapter in May and is now working to create a community for Hispanic engineers at Baylor.

“[If you] remind yourself it isn’t real and temper your thoughts… then that can take a little bit of the power away from it, but it definitely still does have an influence,” Bates said.

College students don’t always have it easy, and there’s a good chance that not every day will go perfectly. Taking the time in the morning to look and feel nice is worth it — because even if your day is full of challenges, at least you looked prepared.

While I am shocked to find out that there are students in college who still have not learned classroom etiquette, I am even more stunned by those who don’t seem worried about the consequences of their actions

In the broadcast booth or on the sideline, my genuine love for sports will shine through until the day I fade away, but if I was 6-foot-anything, I would be a star.
