“UIF stands out as a chance for student advocacy and definitely brings a global connection to Baylor,” Friend said. “It really has a holistic approach in trying to solve these problems on campus, where we’re really trying to emphasize the student voice.”
The Center for Global Engagement will host International Education Week from Nov. 11-15. The week will consist of a variety of events, lectures and experiences put on by departments and organizations for faculty and students to attend.
In addition to cancer prevention, Baylor’s research on water and health is impacting global communities. Collaborations with organizations like the Department of Energy and the National Alliance for Water Innovation focus on solving issues such as water security and sustainable water usage. These interdisciplinary projects aim to improve local infrastructure and provide insight to address global water challenges.
Baylor’s annual Missions Week kicked off in full-swing Monday, making Fountain Mall the place to be to find opportunities to serve locally or globally through Baylor Missions.
“It’s a very ambitious plan, but it’s the right plan for Baylor at this time,” Brickhouse said.
Connecting with other human beings is what Hebert said she loves most about serving in another country, which can have a lasting impact on students.
Every Baylor student has an opportunity to travel overseas and gain experience in their major that they might not otherwise have in America, as well as integrate their faith with their passion.
Currently entering its fifth year, the Certificate in Global Engagement is giving over 400 students an official outlet to explore multicultural opportunities and become globally focused.
