Baylor’s campus is home to several local restaurants through Revolve and food trucks. From Tru Jamaica to Oh My Juice, Baylor has allowed such businesses to expand their reach by giving students the opportunity to support them.
Rising tuition costs, a lack of transportation and the inability to find healthy food options are all factors that contribute to food insecurity among Baylor students. However, a variety of on-campus resources are available for students who need food assistance.
Baylor’s Community Garden is starting fresh this fall after a three-year hiatus, with help from water-preservation technologies, campus composting and a new environmental humanities minor.
There’s no denying it: food insecurity is an issue for students on campus— 2,150 of them to be exact, according to The Store’s website. If such a sizeable number of students struggle with this issue, why is it that these students remain silent in their suffering?
Sytsma said over 45,000 meal swipes are used each week, and dining services is always looking for ways to improve per the students’ feedback.
At this point, food isn’t just food. The 3,000 food additives consisting of preservatives, flavorings, colors and other ingredients are slapped onto the ingredient list and ignored by the American people.
Without wheels, suddenly we’re stranded. We’re met with the inability to do things, like visit the store and go out to eat, without taking an Uber, ordering delivery or getting a ride from a friend.
“We didn’t even know if Baylor would let us on campus, especially in a way so ingrained in the common day… but they told us to stay as long as we want,” Aniceto Charles Jr. said.
The meals I prepare at home cost, on average, $4 for groceries. Another study done by Forbes showed that eating out was about five times more expensive than cooking at home.
Apparently the column in which I ranked vegetables was so life-changing that my editor gave me the green light to do another list. But what should I rank this time?
I’ve compiled this very objective ranking of what I believe to be the best and worst vegetables.
For the person tipping, it’s easy to move on from leaving a zero on the tip section of a receipt or pressing one simple button. For the employee on the other end, though, tipping impacts both their paycheck and their livelihood.

“I am a big breakfast person,” Walter McDonald said. “It’s my favorite meal of the day. I have enjoyed seeing the differences in the breakfast for both cultures.”
The World Hunger Relief Veggie Van recently launched a mobile shop of locally grown vegetables harvested at the World Hunger Relief farm north of Waco. These vegetables are gathered, sold and distributed throughout Waco in order to provide for those who do not have access to fresh produce.
