Baylor student Daniel Jones never finished Bearathon last year; he collapsed before the finish line. But his Kappa Omega Tau fraternity brothers are running on Saturday to honor his memory at this year’s annual race.

Students, faculty and staff are mourning the loss of North Richland Hills senior Daniel Jones who died Saturday during Student Foundation’s annual Bearathon.

Jones was nearing the end of the half-marathon when he collapsed on Fifth Street. The 23-year-old, who was first treated at the scene, died an hour after being transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

If you would have asked me to run the Bearathon last year, I would have wondered why you were talking to me. Prior to the Bearathon, I had never run more than five miles at once. But what seemed like an impossible dream became reality as I was inspired to run the Bearathon this year because of an insight my professor, Dr. Jeter Basden, gave in the Introduction to Ministry class.

North Richland Hills senior Daniel Jones passed away this morning while competing in the Bearathon. Jones collapsed near the finish line and was treated on scene. Medical personnel transported him to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he died an hour later.

Recycling has more than doubled since 2007, rising from 7 percent to 18 percent. The amount of recycled materials has increased from 160.3 tons to 443.4 tons due to an increase in the number of recycling receptacles in buildings, and residence halls and trash cans around campus.

Eight Brooks Residential College residents will be running the Bearathon in support of Ellia Gibson, a 3-year-old Wacoan girl with a rare genetic condition.
