The Bears came close to claiming their first away Big 12 conference series after winning game two against Oklahoma State, but the No. 17 Cowboys crushed the Bears 7-1 in the series rubber match to claim a 2-1 series victory on Monday.

Baylor baseball’s reputation on the road has not been great this season. Baylor has yet to win a conference game, much less a series away from Baylor Ballpark this year.

While most of the student body enjoyed the one-day vacation of Diadeloso, Baylor baseball had work to do. The Bears (14-22) outlasted Incarnate Word (11-24), 2-1 on Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark.

Baylor baseball was scorched by the red-hot No. 20 Houston Cougars 11-0 Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark. Houston crushed Baylor’s pitching staff behind seven runs scored in the final three innings.

Baylor baseball found its second win in a row on Wednesday after handling the UT-Arlington Mavericks 6-2 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. The Bears used a powerful start from the offense and stout pitching throughout the game.

Following a weekend of three straight losses to Cal-State Fullerton, Baylor baseball hopes to bounce back over spring break. Baylor, Texas A&M, Louisiana State University, Hawaii, Nebraska and the University of Houston will participate in the annual Houston Baseball Classic at Minute Maid Park in downtown Houston.

No. 25 Baylor baseball extended its winning streak to three games after an 8-4 win at Baylor Ballpark Wednesday night against Northwestern State. Freshman pitcher Theron Kay started for the Bears, pitched five innings and allowed zero runs.

It was 39 degrees at No. 21 Baylor Baseball’s midweek tilt against Dallas Baptist University Tuesday night. The Patriots cooled down the Bears’ hot start to 2015 with a three-run ninth inning, making it a 9-6 final score in favor of Dallas Baptist.

Baylor baseball beat Lamar University Wednesday night 3-2, but hits and runs were not easy to come by for the Bears. In Baylor’s upcoming weekend series against the No. 4 Cal-State Fullerton Titans (7-3), the lack of offense of late may be a problem against Fullerton’s elite pitching staff.

In their first game back from a winless weekend in California, Baylor (6-6) edged out Lamar University (8-5) 3-2 on a chilly, cloudy Wednesday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

Baylor baseball earned its first series sweep of the season against defending Ohio Valley Conference champ Austin Peay State University after winning 4-2 Friday, 15-1 Saturday and 12-1 Sunday. All three games exposed APSU’s weaknesses.

It has all been about the wins for head coach Steve Smith. He helped make Baylor baseball into a Big 12 powerhouse. Smith is in the middle of his 20th season with the Bears, but this season marks a special new experience for him— coaching his two sons at Baylor.

Junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Smith and freshman first baseman Case Smith are both members of Baylor’s baseball team and are coached by their father at the collegiate level.

The Baylor Bears have been on a hot streak recently, riding a five-game winning streak and coming out as the victors in 14 of their last 19 contests.

The Bears look to continue the winning trend this weekend when they travel to Lawrence for a three-game series against the Kansas Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks are sitting in fifth place in the Big 12 with a 9-9 conference record and are 27-18 overall.

At one point this season, the Baylor baseball team was struggling with an 11-15 overall record and a 1-3 record in the Big 12. The outlook for the remainder of the season certainly did not seem optimistic, but a Baylor team with a history of success showed resiliency and is now in the hunt to defend its Big 12 Championship.
