This isn’t the first trip that Baylor head coach Glenn Moore is making to the Women’s College World Series, but after his team’s upset of No. 2 Arizona in the Super Regionals, this may be his toughest team.
Not only did Baylor baseball earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years, but it won’t have to travel too far, as the Bears received the No. 2 seed in the Houston Regional.
Freshman infielder Shelby McGlaun did not let the moment get the best of her. Instead she took the moment by force, launching the go-ahead three-run homer to center field, propelling Baylor past Arizona 6-5 and onto the Women’s College World Series.
Junior catcher Sydney Christensen picked the perfect time to collect her first hit against a left handed pitcher this season. On a 2-2 pitch from O’Toole, Christensen laced an RBI double to left field that tied the game at 4.
Arizona kept the pressure on Baylor all game defensively and after blowing a 2-0 lead and in the seventh inning, it finally paid off as Wildcats’ freshman Jessie Harper’ single to center field send the Tucson faithful into hysteria as Arizona moved one game closer to returning to the Women’s College World Series.
Baylor was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, stranding 11 runners in a 4-1 loss to top seeded Texas Tech in a Big 12 Conference Tournament elimination game.
Baylor baseball dropped its third straight game Wednesday as West Virginia found its offensive groove early in an 11-1 victory over the Bears.
After being sent down twice earlier in the game, junior first baseman Shelby Friudenberg adjusted her approach at the plate as her three-run home run to center in the bottom of the sixth helped Baylor move one game closer to advancing to the Super Regionals.
