Harumatsuri, an annual Japanese festival celebration for the arrival of spring, was held by Baylor’s Japanese Student Association Friday night on Fountain Mall and featured traditional games, crafts and food stalls, as well as traditional performances. The evening served as a reminder for attendees to embrace new cultures with curiosity to foster better cultural understanding among the Baylor and Waco communities.

All Are Neighbors, held in the Cashion Academic Center, drew 270 ticketed attendees, totaling 352 people, including VIP guests and speakers, nearly filling all available seats. The event was created in response to TPUSA’s presence on campus, but speakers and organizers consistently emphasized that the gathering was not merely reactive. Instead, it functioned as a faith-centered call to action, rooted in Christian teaching and expressed through civic engagement.

However, it comes with a new wave of debate as to why Chinese culture is not being credited properly when selling Chinese-inspired clothing, creating complicated questions in balancing fleeting trends and true appreciation of culture.

Somewhere between lectures, homework, quizzes and deadlines, it seems that actually engaging with the people sitting next to us becomes optional — or something we actively avoid. By the end of the semester, we leave with a hopefully passing grade and a handful of half-remembered faces, but few real connections, if any at all.

As a single, Valentine’s Day is always an interesting holiday. Should singles celebrate or not? How should they celebrate if they do? Should I look for a date? The questions are endless, but I’m here to help all singles navigate the holiday.

Despite the ideology that our culture and world have created, slow can be the most transformative and impactful speed at which to live our lives. Slowing down in a world of hurry and busyness allows you to truly see the plan God has for you.
