With Eclipse Over Texas and Diadeloso both taking place on April 8, it’s not just the sun and moon that will align. Although Waco is estimated to host over 100,000 visitors, the focus of the day will still be Baylor students — and maybe the sudden daytime darkness.

“My experience is that Baylor does a great job developing leaders because it has this focus on Texas, the church and the world,” Eckert said. “I feel like there is a great market for developing leadership for Texas, for the U.S. and then increasingly an international focus on Christian leadership.”

While the spring Welcome Weekend might be less known than its fall counterpart, it’s a beneficial time for transfers and new students to become established at Baylor, said Dr. Nathan Shelburne, director of New Student Programs.

“We want to know that the companies coming here have hired our students before, because I don’t want a company showing up that’s just here to check the box,” Rylander said. “I want them to come and actually hire our students. So if they have history hiring our students, they get on the list to get invited. It’s a privilege for companies to be here.”

Excluding Baylor’s 2021 Big 12 Championship run, when the team went 6-0 at home against Big 12 teams, the Bears are 7-14 against Power Four schools at McLane Stadium under head coach Dave Aranda. With Saturday’s win over the Wildcats, the Bears are now 2-6 at home in games decided by one score since 2022.
