Texas Tech upsets No. 1 Lady Bears 56-45

LUBBOCK — Casey Morris scored 13 points to lead Texas Tech to a 56-45 win over top-ranked Baylor on Saturday.

Fans swarmed the court to celebrate the win, the Lady Raiders’ second over a Top 25 team in the past week. The win avenged a loss in Lubbock last year when Brittney Griner was ejected for punching a Texas Tech player.

Griner finished with 15 points and six rebounds to lead Baylor (24-2, 11-1).

Texas Tech led most of the game, going ahead 52-37 with 5:23 left when Kierra Mallard hit a jumper in the lane. Baylor used a 6-0 run that included a 3-pointer by Melissa Jones and a bucket by Odyssey Sims — her first of the game — to whittle the deficit to 52-43.

Christine Hyde got a layup to put the Lady Raiders up 54-43 before Griner hit two free throws to pull within 54-45. But the Lady Bears were too far behind down the stretch.
