Maybe the issue isn’t that it’s not a unified, independent country. Maybe the issue is that the existence of Palestine — historically, factually and prophetically — is inconvenient for the U.S.

McClay is the first ever solely Beyoncé-focused journalist — a highly competitive role which she obtained in November 2023. She said her job entails eating, sleeping and breathing all things Beyoncé. The role is challenging and there are always surprises, but it’s something she’s always wanted, she said.
With all the promotion Baylor does for the event, the preparation of updating and perfecting resumes and the careful selection of a professional outfit the night before, I would hope the event would be worth my time. But each year my hopes are dashed by the lack of options for journalism majors.
Amid a local news drought and shifting expectations in journalism, The Texas Tribune is bringing its answer to Waco.
“[If you] remind yourself it isn’t real and temper your thoughts… then that can take a little bit of the power away from it, but it definitely still does have an influence,” Bates said.
How on earth does a 43-year-old man with a mullet and Louisiana drawl get a man like Bernie Sanders to call him “profound” on the online equivalent of a bachelor pad that’s sponsored by a men’s razor called “The Lawn Mower?” Was this just a one-time comment made by Von that caught the senator by surprise, or is Theo Von a legitimate journalist capable of generating relevant, thought-provoking and engaging discussion?
Zuckerberg’s letter is a reminder that there is no infallible authority protecting people from believing potentially dangerous falsehoods. It affirms that on social media, truth is in the eye of the beholder.
If your realization is that you really don’t know all that much about journalism, don’t worry — you’re not the only one. Mob mentality spreads like fire on the internet, and it’s all too easy to connect the negativity and offensiveness of what’s happening in our world to the source that reports it. But we ask you, please, don’t shoot the messenger.
Even if we can’t agree that Julian Assange is a journalist, and even if we can’t agree on support for him as a person, it is imperative that we agree on the principles of the situation. Prosecuting someone whose actions align with the daily practices and goals of journalism would be an attack on the First Amendment freedom that allows the press to give the public the news it needs.
Oftentimes, required classes may seem unnecessary and unhelpful in our everyday lives. However, each one has been chosen to further our education and our perspectives at Baylor. Classes that should be added to this list are those emphasizing cultural conversations. This could include English classes that focus on multicultural literature, history classes that examine a certain ethnic group, medical humanities classes that discuss race in medicine and so many more.
It’s no secret that Baylor has produced a number of famous and talented alumni across all different fields, from prominent politicians to successful business owners. While those in the arts are often overlooked, numerous incredible women got their start here before entering the spotlight in acting, literature and the visual arts.
Around the new year, people look for hobbies. Photography is a great one to pick up because it gives you the chance to meet new people and expand your creativity.
This is how we are trained as journalists, and I think when we live by these rules — and, most importantly, keep open minds and hearts — it can be a step toward a dependable and trustworthy future.
If I had forced myself to study something that seemed more “practical” to the outside world, I would have been miserable, and that is the simple consequence of not living your truth.
Since switching career paths after nearly a full year’s worth of mental breakdowns, I quickly realized that many people still believe the stigma of liberal arts degrees being a waste of time and money, implying that there is little to no return on the investment. However, research and statistics disprove that claim, with liberal arts degrees being shown to provide both wealth and invaluable preparation for the ever-changing job market.
With a background as a reporter at the San Antonio Express-News, the Bryan-College Station Eagle and the Waco Tribune-Herald — as well as nine years as the director of student media at Texas A&M — Pils has a wealth of knowledge of sports journalism, news and college media.
“They feel empowered by the strength and wisdom that they have collected over the years,” Moody-Ramirez said. “Many times they feel that it would be wrong to keep this wisdom to themselves, so they feel led to either share it on social media platforms or in books. Many of them, like Grace, end up doing both.”
Someone will always be better than you and there is no getting around that. Rather than viewing yourself as inferior, learn from those that are better than you and really pick their brains and their work.
Being educated on local and global current events is a necessity, and it’s essential to be an informed citizen. Be a better news consumer for yourself.
“If the option was to drink at home, a lot of people wouldn’t drink at all,” Damien Cunningham, a public relations and marketing employee for The Quays Bar, said.
Journalism was neither a popular nor healthy career choice in 2014. Despite this, I’ve known journalism was my calling for a few years now. I know that I was born to write for newsprint.
In modern day, discovering breaking news is as quick as swiping a text notification on a smartphone or as simple as stumbling upon a trending tweet. News now spreads so expediently and more concisely than any other time in history.
Undoubtedly, times have evolved since the primitive times of technology in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Families would gather around their television set to hear the latest news, mostly in 15-minute evening bulletins.
Science and the media don’t always see eye to eye.
I’m lucky enough to understand both sides of the whole media versus research battle. Scientists don’t always like journalists because they assert that journalists never get it right. Journalists are frustrated with scientists because they can’t seem to explain their research in an understandable way half the time, and the other half of the time, the scientists won’t talk to journalists. Maybe this is just a student journalist problem.
The 2013 State of the Media report shows that newsrooms have cut their staff by 30 percent since 2000.
With newsrooms at their lowest capacity since 1978, journalists are worried about job prospects and many avid news consumers doubt the quality of information.
The debate on the correct balance between news and entertainment has been going on for decades.
A prime example of this debate can be found right here on Baylor’s overly-watered but oh so green grass: Castellaw Communications Building.
The bottom floor hosts the film and digital media department while journalism, public relations and new media stay on the top.
There is hardly any crossover.
