Musicians dressed to the nines and numerous attendees poured into Jones Hall on Thursday night for the Baylor Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble concert. This was no ordinary show, as world-renowned composer and conductor Frank Ticheli made a guest appearance at the concert where students played several of his compositions.

What would have been a regular Tuesday night was made grand and dynamic by the performance put on by Baylor’s Wayne Fisher Jazz Program during their finale concert of the season at Jones Concert Hall. Commenced with the drums, the heartbeat of the band, and concluded with one triumphant, brassy blast from the ensemble, the concert jazz performance was an eclectic earful throughout.

Baylor University’s two jazz ensembles, the Baylor Jazz Ensemble and the Concert Jazz Ensemble, will team up with world famous trumpet player Vince Dimartino in a free concert tonight.
This evening, six of Baylor University’s vocal ensembles will present their annual choral concert for Family Weekend.
The sounds of Halloween will fill Jones Concert Hall Thursday evening. The School of Music’s organ department will highlight its namesake instrument that has become associated with this time of the year.
This year’s performance marks the 23rd annual celebration of Halloween through the demonstration of one of the oldest continuously developing instruments in the music world. Dr. Isabelle Demers is the assistant professor of organ in the department and is coordinating the event.
Tonight Baylor Jazz Ensemble concert will include everything from Count Basie to Radiohead.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building and is free and open to the public.
“This is a concert where there will be literally something for almost everybody,” said Alex Parker, senior lecturer and director of jazz studies.
The Jazz Age is still alive and swinging thanks to the Baylor Jazz Ensemble.
Directed by Alex Parker, a senior lecturer in jazz studies, the band’s season begins Saturday with “A Moonlight Serenade,” an all Swing Era concert that features a “re-creation of what folks in the 1940s heard on radios, in nightclubs, on 78-rpm records and from the hotel ballrooms of their day,” according to a brochure published by the Baylor School of Music.
Mark Thallander, a world-renowned organist who lost his arm in a car accident in 2003 played during Chapel in Waco Hall on Monday.
Renowned cellist Lynn Harrell, who has performed around the world, will appear next on Baylor University’s Distinguished Artist Series.
Popular Christian authors Anne Lamott and Donald Miller will meet with an audience of students, faculty and the general public to discuss writing as an act of faith at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
