“We’re seeing not only the upper respiratory elements, but also seeing some lower gastrointestinal manifestations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea associated with it,” Hess said. “So it seems to be sort of hitting both above the belt and below the belt, so to speak.”

For a quick, convenient way to prevent a long battle with the flu, Health Services is offering mobile flu vaccine clinics to students and staff.
Lilia Gonzalez, director of nurses, said Health Services would remain available to monitor potential measles outbreaks and help students. Though the Texas measles outbreak has ended, Health Services continues providing preventative measures for other potential outbreaks.
Baylor Health Services offers flu shots on the second floor of the McLane Student Life Center to ensure that students stay safe and healthy during the holiday session.
Of the 88 flu cases the Baylor Health Center has seen since August, 83 of them have been this semester.
As of Wednesday, the Baylor Health Center has seen 10,174 patients since the beginning of the fall semester.
According to clinic records, the influenza virus is the most likely virus to crop up on campus and can have negative effects on coursework.
Dr. Sharon Stern, the medical director at the health center located on the second floor of the McLane Student Life Center, said the clinic is normally well equipped to handle the virus without seeking help from outside sources.
