Baylor filed a lawsuit Friday alleging offensive lineman Sean Thompkins breached the buyout agreement in his Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deal he made with the school in December 2025, per a report from KWTX.
Baylor alleges Thompkins owes the university $85,000 as well as attorneys’ fees, court costs and interest after failing to abide by the terms of a settlement in May.
“In an effort to resolve this breach, Plaintiff and Defendant entered into a mediated settlement agreement on May 13, 2026, which outlines a payment schedule for Defendant to settle the ‘buyout’ of the NIL Agreement at a mediated and agreed-upon amount,” the lawsuit states. “Defendant failed to pay any amounts under the Settlement Agreement according to the payment schedule despite the fact that he agreed to make those payments.”
A Baylor spokeswoman and Baylor’s attorney, Andy McSwain, declined to comment.
The lawsuit states that Baylor agreed to pay Thompkins for his NIL rights until June 30, 2027 unless either side terminated the agreement for that date. It also alleges that the contract was terminated once Thompkins entered the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 1.
Thompkins spent three seasons for the Bears before transferring to LSU this offseason. He redshirted in 2023 and made his collegiate debut against Tarleton State in 2024. He broke out as a redshirt sophomore in 2025, starting in the final five of the 10 games he appeared in at left tackle.
Thompkins was a three-star transfer following last season, ranking as the No. 25 offensive tackle in the portal.
