Sing Alliance is known for its high-energy themes and open-door policy; it’s become the route for many freshmen looking to take the stage in their first year at Baylor. For Waco freshman Zayn Matthews and Montgomery freshman Haley Conner, the organization gave them more than just the stage; it gave them a family.

After the season opener filled the Baylor Line to capacity, the wave of golden jerseys looked thinner at the second and third home football games. The shift sparked online scrutiny from upperclassmen who say enthusiasm is fading too fast after Baylor’s 4-4 start to the season.

For Golden, Colo., senior Jack Wheeler, a guitar club seemed like something that would have already been in place at Baylor. However, to his surprise, his assumption led him to discover there was no current guitar club at the university. So, eventually, he founded a club of his own.

For most fans of the green and gold, football season starts when hundreds of jersey-clad freshmen rush the field to fill “That Good Old Baylor Line.” For members of the Golden Wave Band, however, it starts in the sweltering August heat across from the Baylor Science Building a week before classes begin.

Hundreds of freshmen united in voice with the spirit squad and the Golden Wave Marching Band ushered in the beginning of the Baylor Bear’s football season.
