The No. 15-ranked Baylor Bears declawed the Arizona Wildcats in Saturday’s Senior Night matchup, 74-60, after a slow first-quarter start turned into an explosive performance from the 3-point line.
For decades, two bears have been the face of Baylor. Saturday, the latest additions to that legacy, Judge Indy and Belle, celebrated their third birthdays.
Baylor’s Ruth Kimeli finished the cross country season for the Bears Saturday, placing 112th in the NCAA Championships. The sophomore set a new personal record for the Gans Creek Cross Country Course and came just shy of setting a career personal record.
After a blowout loss to No. 13 Utah, Baylor is looking to focus on correcting the small mistakes that snowballed into opportunities for the opponent to capitalize on. The Bears remain one game out of bowl eligibility with two games left to play.
While the Bears placed 12th overall in the NCAA South Central Regionals, sophomore Ruth Kimeli placed eighth individually, putting her just out of reach for automatic qualification in the NCAA Championships. She is still eligible for an at-large spot.
The No. 9-ranked Bears couldn’t hold on after a close first half against No. 7 SMU, eventually losing 11-6 to close out the fall season.
Baylor has lost nine straight to SMU, stretching back to 2017. The Bears had previously gone undefeated in the first decade of the rivalry. With one win already at home, Baylor looks to end the fall slate remaining undefeated at home and tie the all-time record against SMU.
After an exciting home victory over UCF, the Bears got some time to recover during the bye week, with arguably their most difficult matchup of the season — No. 15 Utah — just around the corner.
Baylor soccer traveled to Stillwater, Okla. for its last regular-season game of the year Thursday. The Bears showcased a strong performance to gain their 12th win of the season and clinch the No. 5 seed in the Big 12 tournament.
“It brings both Baylor’s campus and the Waco community together to celebrate our shared history,” Chiles said. “The alumni of the past are allowed to come watch an hour and a half long parade that showcases the best of Baylor and Waco.”
The past five days, the Bears competed in ITA Regionals and came away with success against Texas A&M, Rice, Texas, UIW and Texas Tech.
After a much-needed bye week for Baylor football, the team continues to prep for the Bluebonnet Battle against TCU. The Bears enter Week 8 focused on mental strength and a consistently fast pace of play.
“It’s just going to be a wild ride, seeing everything about it,” Lozuk said. “There’s going to be a lot of changes…. In the next couple of months, they’re going to start getting more independent and start trying to be on their own a little bit.”
The Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat, home to campus cubs Judge Indy and Judge Belle, will celebrate the bears’ first birthdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Attendees will have the chance to visit Indy and Belle while partaking in a variety of activities for students and families.
Judge Indy and Judge Belle have been on campus for over a month, and they are taking well to Baylor while showing off their distinct personalities.
“We always kind of talk about how you have to go down before you go up,” Aranda said. “It’s easier to talk about than to go through that. But that’s where we’re at. I just feel like the character of the coaches and our players and just the integrity of it all, for sure, is going to be tested because it’s tough and you’re inviting a bunch of hate. But we have the makings of a good team.”
Baylor students, faculty, staff and Waco residents started lining up around 8:30 a.m. Saturday to welcome the new bear cubs, Judge Indy and Judge Belle, to campus.
Along with the freshmen on campus, there are two new additions to the Baylor community: Judge Indy and Judge Belle. Baylor will host a Meet the Cubs event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday to officially welcome the cubs to the Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat.
