According to the Student Activities website, the office opened in fall 2018 in an attempt to support student leaders, providing them with resources and a space to work as a group. It acts as an extension of Baylor Connect — a program that details upcoming events held by student organizations.

Dr. Whitney Jones, senior director for CASE, said students come from a variety of educational and financial backgrounds, and CASE exists to bridge the gap to success at Baylor. She said it has special programs for first-generation students, transfers, law students, veterans and more. Free tutoring and supplemental instruction are also available for all majors.
The Martin Museum of Art recently introduced a new exhibit, In Pursuit of Light: Women in Photography, to reflect on women’s role in the art form. Allison Chew, director of the Martin Museum of Art, said that the exhibit focuses on how female artists relate to the concept of light — and that it was created in part as a nod to the solar eclipse taking place in April.
Many academic departments at Baylor offer departmental scholarships or other types of financial aid, yet students might forget about such opportunities and miss the chance to apply.
“We offer both competitive and recreational leagues for each sport and have enough spots to fill up about 200 to 250 teams for each sport,” Reid Jackson said. “As for how long each sport’s season lasts, there is a three-week regular season, followed by a three-week playoff period.”
Olivia Moses, assistant director of student productions, said demand is high, and purchasing tickets through the Waco Hall Ticket Office website provides the greatest chance at securing them. There are six shows in total taking place Feb. 15-17 and Feb. 22-24, but tickets should be purchased immediately upon release as they tend to sell out quickly.
As winter brings cold and freezing temperatures to Waco, faculty and staff are taking part in keeping campus cats warm and fed — and students can too.
Since the introduction of Baylor’s new digital ID card at the beginning of the spring semester, 60% of on-campus students have signed up for and begun taking advantage of the service. However, off-campus students, faculty and staff will have to wait for it to be extended to them.
Dr. Kristen Padilla, director of the center, said she has seen the Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities grow and transform over the last 10 years. According to its website, the center is hosting two events in January — one for students and one for faculty and staff members.
The joint research effort led to a breakthrough in developing a prototype photonic computer chip that can better regulate its temperature, leading to more efficient energy usage.
“My experience is that Baylor does a great job developing leaders because it has this focus on Texas, the church and the world,” Eckert said. “I feel like there is a great market for developing leadership for Texas, for the U.S. and then increasingly an international focus on Christian leadership.”
While the spring Welcome Weekend might be less known than its fall counterpart, it’s a beneficial time for transfers and new students to become established at Baylor, said Dr. Nathan Shelburne, director of New Student Programs.
The Baylor Counseling Center, along with the Center for Academic Success and Engagement, is helping students set themselves up for success in 2024 by offering simple steps to achieving goals.
Motorized scooter storage and charging are no longer permitted inside Baylor campus buildings, according to traffic, transportation and parking policy changes.
Inspired by the governing bodies of Baylor and other R1 institutions, The Woodlands senior and Student Body President Nick Madincea said student government aims to be the first in the Big 12 to roll out a five-year strategic plan. A part of the Experiential Learning Commons on the Garden Level of Moody Memorial Library, the Moody Makerspace is open to all Baylor students, faculty and staff, with no requirements for major or classification. It houses a variety of tools available for use in personal or academic projects, including a 3D printer, a laser cutter, a computer adapter, a sewing kit, woodworking tools and more.
“I think if we’re doing our jobs right, the impact is not even noticed by the folks on campus,” Burnias said. “You know, our mission is to maximize the student experience on campus. We don’t see our mission as doing cleaning or maintenance or grounds. It’s to maximize the student experience on campus.”
In 1945, Baylor established the Centennial Time Capsule, which was constructed from the remains of Tryon Hall — a building that was part of Baylor’s original campus in Independence.
