Lyon is a Baylor alumnus and has been part of the faculty at Baylor since 1975, starting out as a professor of sociology up until 1998 when he became dean of the Graduate School and has been in that position since. When he retires at the end of this academic year, he will have completed 50 years at Baylor. During his tenure as dean, he has witnessed the transformation and contributed to the growth of the graduate school.

Founded 12 years ago to combat human trafficking in Waco, Unbound Now has become a global nonprofit organization. Unbound executive director Kristi Hayes said it started with a small local church group that refused to let the issue go unnoticed in the community.

Green and Gold Weekend will be hosting multiple activities that include: Gut Pak Run, the green and gold spring football game, softball, baseball, soccer, tennis and a variety of musical performances. Baylor Alumni will be hosting its BBQ Cook Off — a competition challenging participant’s grill skills — on Saturday at Bear Lawn, right outside of McLane Stadium.

“They feel empowered by the strength and wisdom that they have collected over the years,” Moody-Ramirez said. “Many times they feel that it would be wrong to keep this wisdom to themselves, so they feel led to either share it on social media platforms or in books. Many of them, like Grace, end up doing both.”

The future of Baylor alumni relations depends on how members of the Baylor Alumni Association Transition Agreement vote Saturday. Baylor has started a “Baylor Forward” campaign encouraging members to vote “yes,” but others are hoping for the contrary.

The alumni deserve an independent voice. However, we are not endorsing either a “yes” or “no” vote because we feel that neither adequately accomplishes this.

Many proposals have happened on Baylor’s campus. For one couple, a symbol of that special moment has remained under a bridge for the past nine years, written in white chalk.

Matt Waller, who graduated in 2003, met 2005 alumna Jennifer Welch at the Baylor Marina in August 2002. He was in between two-a-day football practices and she was leading a Welcome Week group of transfer students.
