With only four more Big 12 games left for Baylor, the matchups occurring around the league will be important for the Big 12 Tournament seeding. The Bears will have to take care of business, but also keep an eye out for other teams.

Baylor senior guard Odyssey Sims was 2013 World University Games MVP, three-time Wade Watch list candidate and participant in the USA Women’s National Team mini-camp.

The World University Games are equivalent to the Olympics for collegiate athletes and Sims had the opportunity to play for Team USA at this summer’s games in Russia.

Baylor volleyball will look to pick up its second win in the Big 12 and its first home conference win in a crucial match against Oklahoma. The Bears currently sit eighth in the Big 12 with a record of 9-12, including a record of 1-4 in conference play.

Oklahoma comes in with a record of 15-4, including 3-2 in the Big 12 with losses against Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas State.

In a relatively short period of time, Baylor football has become nationally renowned for its explosive offense. Through the first four games, the Bears were averaging 781.5 yards per game, 70.5 points per game and beating teams by an average of 54.3 points per game. All of these marks led the country.

Baylor faced an unexpected challenge in its first road game on Saturday against Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. The Bears managed to escape “The Little Apple” with a 35-25 victory, but one that looked different from the display of offensive fireworks in previous weeks.

The Bears’ struggles continued with a straight set loss to in-state rival Texas Christian University on Wednesday night. The Bears lost the sets 25-23, 25-21, and 25-21. The home confines of the Ferrell Center have not been friendly for Baylor volleyball so far in Big 12 conference play.

Baylor took a deficit to begin every set, and struggled to recover.

Baylor football has established a tradition of elite offense. In the last two seasons, the Bears have finished second nationally in total offense.

With that history, Baylor came into this season with a world of expectations on the offensive. So far this season, the Bears have shattered previous offensive records with junior quarterback Bryce Petty at the helm.

With Baylor’s flashy offense and improved defense, the third phase of the football team is often overlooked. Baylor’s special teams have been a model of consistency and have helped boost Baylor to some key victories. When the game is on the line, all eyes are on special teams because of the impact they can have on the outcome of a game.

After winning its first Big 12 match of the season on Oct. 9 against West Virginia, Baylor volleyball looks to keep the momentum going in a Big 12 tilt against Texas Christian University. The Bears currently sit with a record of 9-11 after a 1-3 start in Big 12 conference play.

“Our problem has been consistency,” senior defensive specialist Kayci Evans said. “At some point it comes together but then five minutes later we’ll mentally break down.”
