Some women might even choose to not pursue a college career if they have a dream of being a mom and taking care of the home. This is not the path for everyone, just like being a doctor or pursuing any career is not for everyone. Women should be able to choose what is best for them without being viewed as dependent or old-fashioned.

Women make up almost three three-fourths of the teaching population in the United States. However, according to the TIAA Institute, only 36% of women faculty are full professors in higher education. There are stereotypical speculations about why this is, including that women may be more nurturing or drawn to kids by nature and that men are more educated or knowledgable on research subjects.
According to the National Library of Medicine, only 16.5% of students who intend to major in pre-medicine graduate with the courses required in order to attend medical school. Most students that go to medical school major in biological science, as it is one that extensively overlaps with working in the healthcare field.
The measles outbreak in Texas is growing quickly, but there have been no confirmed cases in McLennan County at this time. According to ABC News, the number of measles cases has increased to 159, leaving 22 people hospitalized. Measles is highly contagious, however, it is preventable with vaccines.
There are prehealth workshops like this throughout the semester. The next two are on March 3 and March 17. According to the registration page, the March 3 workshop will provide trail mix to “savor the admissions experience,” and the March 17 workshop is called “How to Be a One in a Melon Applicant” and will provide sour watermelon candies to students who attend.
The Rural Health Equity Research Collaborative is a research lab led by undergraduate students to help alleviate healthcare shortages in medically underserved communities. The group of students in the lab work with communities to introduce healthcare careers to middle school aged children.
The Gold Standard Award is an honor that faculty in the Robbins College receive if they have received the Pure Gold Award previously and are considered to be outstanding staff. Five are chosen from the Pure Gold Award recipients: outstanding staff, outstanding lecturer, outstanding clinical faculty, outstanding tenure-track faculty and outstanding tenured faculty. Adeyemi received the most outstanding lecturer this past semester.
In the past, pre-health honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta has done a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, however, this year they are headed to South Africa instead. AED is an organization that strives to cultivate the students’ hearts for service, give them experience in the medical world and grow closer together as a group. This year AED is able to partner with the Medical Service Organization (MSO) for their trip.
Pinchen is among several students in the lab who are passionate about creating a happier life for those with dementia. She recalled that many of the patients light up and are so happy to be reconnected with songs they might not have heard in a while.
As pre-nursing students navigate their transition from Waco to Dallas, they face challenges with a different pace of learning, housing and finding ways to get involved in organizations all while staying connected with the Waco campus.
