Apply to be a part of the Lariat staff; editors share memories of the job

“There aren’t many things that beat when you get to send your work out into the world. It’s scary to put yourself out there like that, but there’s also the feeling of accomplishment that is so rewarding. Having worked up from a staff writer to copy desk chief to opinion editor, every position comes with its own challenges and overcoming those challenges is part of the fun. Working at the Lariat is not a job where you go in, log your hours and go home at the end of the day; it comes with a sense of doing work that can really matter and that becomes a huge motivator.

“The November election really exemplified that for me. We were in the newsroom until long past midnight working on putting the paper together, and by the end of it, everyone was beyond exhausted, but it also came with a huge sense of pride about the job we did. I was so proud of the work the entire staff put in that night, and it was so cool to play a part in covering that unique moment in history. Those kinds of special moments make this job worth it.”
