The Baylor men’s baseball team had been on a slide, losing six out of its last eight games, but senior outfielder Nathan Orf and junior right-handed-pitcher Josh Michalec led the Bears to a 4-1 victory over the Sam Houston State Bearkats to get the Bears their first road victory of the season.

The Baylor Bears move to 9-12 on the year after losing to the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Tuesday night, 4-2. Despite a five-inning shutout pitching performance from senior lefty Crayton Bare, the Bears narrowly fell to the Bearkats.

Unlike the last couple of games, the No. 25 Baylor softball team had trouble generating offense after their dominant night on Thursday. Baylor continued the Texas Shootout in a double-header beginning with Sam Houston State and finished with UT Arlington. Baylor’s defense did their job forcing back-to-back shutouts, as the pitching stayed consistent to avoid losses. Baylor started slow in both games, but managed to have key hits, allowing them to score.

On Saturday, the Bears will take on the Sam Houston State Bearkats, but it’s been a week since Baylor defeated SMU by a score of 59-24 in their rocky season opener.

“We didn’t feel like we were completely clean against SMU and we worked on correcting things,” said head coach Art Briles.

The impressive part about Baylor soccer’s 3-0 win over Sam Houston State Friday night wasn’t the final score. It was that somehow, the Bears actually managed to dominate the game even more than the final tally.

Baylor baseball saw a promising two-run lead slip away as Sam Houston State tied it and finished their come-from-behind 3-2 win with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th Tuesday in Huntsville.

After 14 straight wins by the Baylor Lady Bears, the streak was snapped in a pitchers’ dual Sunday against the University of Houston Cougars, falling 1-0.

The Baylor Lady Bears soccer team heads to Houston on Saturday as they begin their first competitive action of the spring season. First up for the Lady Bears will be the Houston Cougars at 11 a.m. followed by a showdown with the Sam Houston State Bearkats at 5 p.m. in the same location. These games cap off an exciting week in which the Lady Bears signed six student athletes from five states to join the team next year.
