Every summer, college students hear the same advice: get an internship if you want a job after graduation. It sounds simple enough, but in reality, finding an internship can be incredibly difficult and time-consuming. There aren’t enough positions for the number of college students looking for internships, and the few that do are often highly competitive and require prior experience. This is a frustrating paradox: the only way to get experience is through an internship, yet you often need experience to get one.

Having a job in college might not seem like that big of a deal, but when you take on this responsibility, you are playing an important part within the college community. Only putting in the bare minimum can certainly be a tempting option, but it’s a curse that smites us from the heavens.

For some, the idea of doing this in a completely new country can be too much. If you don’t want to travel to a new country but still want to do a study abroad program, Baylor has plenty of options for you.

Although the school year has just begun, you might already be eagerly anticipating making your summer plans — a summer job, a vacation, studying abroad or getting some classes out of the way. With so many options, I want to offer a suggestion: Consider being a camp counselor.
