Amid Waco’s booming arts scene, one art form has grown slower than others — dance. However, partial credit must be awarded to one trailblazer in the field. From the beginning of her dance career in her youth to now, Waco local Brooke Schlecte has brought many opportunities for different kinds of dance to thrive in Waco.

This energetic group, based on South Asian and Bollywood style dance traditions, is not solely about the skill — it’s about community, culture and creativity.
“I think in high school, a lot of girls’ experiences with dance was competitive culture. We really try to encourage a positive environment here. We want to build each other up as a team and encourage each other in our walks with Christ,” Sexton said.
The space, formerly an axe house, is a complete manifestation of Corkill’s vision. From the beginning, Corkill knew he wanted a place he could call home to multiple types of art, from theater to music to ASL; he has now accomplished that in less than two months.
Rhett is well known for his ability to combine traditional country music with pop, providing a modern mix that is refreshing to hear. However, Rhett took this album a step further with songs that could be classified under all sorts of genres including old country, new country, rock, pop and more.
Gateway to India takes place during Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and a time when those who observe it fast from sunup to sundown. After five dances, the event paused for an intermission, and Indian food such as samosas, tandoori chicken and paneer were served for iftar, the breaking of the fast.
The Ballroom Dance Society is a hidden gem on Baylor’s campus. Filled with waltz, swing, foxtrot, cha-cha and salsa lessons, it features a variety of styles for anyone who wants to learn the art of ballroom dance. The group meets at 7 p.m. every Friday in the Bill Daniel Student Center.
REFIT Revolution is a Waco fitness and workout studio that aims to create a sense of belonging, empowerment and transformation through dance parties that double as exercise.
Every girl you know posted this album over spring break on her Instagram story. And it was for a good reason, for the most part. I’d say about half of this whopping 36-song record is worth your time. “Keith Whitley” is part of that good half, an homage to one of country music’s beloved ‘80s stars.
“I just hope that we’re able to bring an appreciation of Asian culture and openness to engage in conversation, especially difficult conversations, because those are so often needed,” Chung said.
Dancing is natural. It’s self-expression through movement, and we all have the capacity to express ourselves.
“They are so talented, and so it is so much fun just to get to get to watch them succeed and grow. And I feel like every practice, I’m always like, ‘okay, they’re amazing,'” Nelson said.
