Amid Waco’s booming arts scene, one art form has grown slower than others — dance. However, partial credit must be awarded to one trailblazer in the field. From the beginning of her dance career in her youth to now, Waco local Brooke Schlecte has brought many opportunities for different kinds of dance to thrive in Waco.

“I think in high school, a lot of girls’ experiences with dance was competitive culture. We really try to encourage a positive environment here. We want to build each other up as a team and encourage each other in our walks with Christ,” Sexton said.

The space, formerly an axe house, is a complete manifestation of Corkill’s vision. From the beginning, Corkill knew he wanted a place he could call home to multiple types of art, from theater to music to ASL; he has now accomplished that in less than two months.

The Ballroom Dance Society is a hidden gem on Baylor’s campus. Filled with waltz, swing, foxtrot, cha-cha and salsa lessons, it features a variety of styles for anyone who wants to learn the art of ballroom dance. The group meets at 7 p.m. every Friday in the Bill Daniel Student Center.

Every girl you know posted this album over spring break on her Instagram story. And it was for a good reason, for the most part. I’d say about half of this whopping 36-song record is worth your time. “Keith Whitley” is part of that good half, an homage to one of country music’s beloved ‘80s stars.

The Baylor Latin Dance Society is a student club at Baylor whose mission is to encourage student and community involvement in the Latin culture and to demonstrate and teach the different styles of Latin-influenced dances such as salsa, merengue, cha-cha and more.
