Zeta Tau Alpha will host its annual Pie-A-Prez event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, inviting presidents from organizations across Baylor’s campus to participate by getting pied in the face on Fountain Mall. This year, the event aims to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and education, specifically early detection of breast cancer using AI technological advances.

Throughout the month of October, Zeta Tau Alpha has prepared for their male pageant, Big Man on Campus. This event showcases performances of talent and humor, while raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.
“By the time you are 85 or 90 years old, you will know a lot of women that have had breast cancer, since it happens to one in eight women over the course of a lifetime,” Stern said. “Outside of skin cancer, this statistic makes it the most common cancer for American women.”
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, but as awareness grows, there are still myths about breast cancer.
“Some common myths are: finding a lump always means breast cancer, men do not get breast cancer, breast cancer is contagious or that deodorants, cell phones or microwave ovens can cause breast cancer,” said Dr Sharon Stern, physician and director of Baylor Health Services.
The battle against breast cancer will enlist runners, activists, donors and multipurpose volunteers in a charity event.
The 2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Square in downtown Waco.
Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., followed by a survivor breakfast and ceremony.
