Once the holidays rolled around this year, Dichotomy Coffee and Spirits transformed into a whimsical festive display complete with life-sized “gingerbread” details, floating presents, Whoville-style décor and this year, an igloo home to plush penguins.

Downtown Waco glistened with holiday cheer this weekend as Waco Wonderland returned to Heritage Square for its 13th year, drawing large crowds of families, students and local vendors. With the ferris wheel lighting up Austin Avenue, expanded food truck options and a busy Mistletoe Market, this year’s event blended familiar traditions with new features that kept visitors circulating through the plaza.
Cultivate 7Twelve, an art gallery located on Austin Avenue, will be closing its doors for good in January 2025. Owner Debbie Wright announced the news via an Instagram post on Oct. 31.
Since its commencement last fall, the Austin Avenue Art Fair has cultivated community and enriched culture through showcasing artists and musicians. This year, the community will come together from Nov. 1-3 to celebrate and admire the talents of local artists.
“With the the images of Austin Avenue, it made Waco realize that Austin Avenue has so much great potential and because it was the main thoroughfare in the city of Waco at one time, it could be that again,” Hunt said.
Waco has grown to become a prime hub for home goods and decor with the Magnolia takeover in recent years. However despite some overlapping niches, local boutique Lane’s on Austin Avenue continues to find ways to thrive as it extends its lifetime-long existence of over 75 years.
“For so long women have been confined and suffocated and not allowed to celebrate who they are; that fact that we’re able to now is just so amazing,” Almon said.
The Creative Art Studio and Theater located on 605 Austin Ave. in downtown Waco opened a photographic exhibit featuring the work of local artists.
The Historic Waco Foundation has many holiday events lined up this year, and are asking all who want to “share the spirit of the season” to attend. Annually, the foundation puts together an annual Christmas parade, as well as hosts the Christmas on the Brazos decorated house museum tours.
